    Majesty - Thierry Deleruyelle

Majesty is a powerful and spectacular overture. Right from the start, the brass open the work brilliantly before making way for a majestic hymn mostly played by the woodwind. The end of the piece repeats the opening fanfare as a monumental finale in the style of an American symphonic march. This work was commissioned by the Bourbourg Wind Orchestra (France), conducted by Claude Deconinck, on the occasion of its 230th anniversary. This piece was premiered by the commissioning orchestra on 19 November 2022, just two months after the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Naturally, this work is dedicated to her.

Quebec Folk Rhapsody - Robert Buckley

The rich heritage of French-Canadian folk music dates back several centuries. Robert has chosen three of these songs to create a musical portrait of this colorful culture. The opening piece is the jaunty and dance-like Monsieur Lecur, followed by the hauntingly beautiful Blanche Comme la Neige. The piece concludes with the spirited march Vive la Canadienne!, which features a drum break and builds to an exciting, rousing finish. The creative use of harmonizations, key changes and dynamic contrasts gives this piece a sophisticated sound and intensity of a much more advanced piece. Dur: 3:35

Hypernikon - Jan Van der Roost

The Greek word 'hypernikon' roughly translates as 'More Than Conquerors', the motto of Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts the commissioner of this piece. The work is inspired by David Rox's very own name the first two letters of his name, D and A, sets the first theme is in D major, with these notes being the tonic and dominant of the scale. After the stately intrada, the tempo accelerates and the festive feel of the march emerges. The trio melody serves as a beautiful contrast before finally ending with the opening theme in a grand tutti.

    Suite - Istvan Bogar

Istvn Bogr's series of movements intended for youngsters is colourfully instrumented, evocative music, rich in melodic invention; in character it is most closely akin to Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker ballet music. In the opening movement (Little march), little boys wearing paper shakos on their heads and carrying wooden swords play at soldiers. The following movement, Humming, is the only movement in the suite that is calm and in odd-numbered rhythm; in it the children gather flowers in their little baskets, and meanwhile hum pleasant tunes. The third movement is a funny game, with its tempo sometimes speeding up, sometimes slowing down, but by the end really going wild. The title of the finale is Game of tag. The tiny formal sections and interludes in this lively, cheerful music are linked together by a recurring rondo theme, and the chase ends with a brief coda.
