Cottonwood Falls - Nathan Jones
Cottonwood Falls draws its inspiration from the Great Plains of Oklahoma, and Kansas' Flint Hills. A faster, rhythmically active theme depicts the myriad wildflowers and teeming wildlife in this landscape. Contrasting against this is a longer, more legato theme which invokes the rolling, expansive prairie and wide, starry skies of the country. (Grade 2)

March of the Roughnecks - Ed Huckeby
This concert march heralds back to the early days of the oil boom in the early 1900s. Commissioned by the Glenpool High School Band, commemorating one of the early oil field discoveries (the "Glenn Pool") in Oklahoma, this march recollects the undeniable spirit of the early petroleum pioneers and oil field laborers (called "roughnecks"). The roughnecks worked long, hard hours to drill for the "black crude" which helped to define the Tulsa area as the "oil capitol of the world" for many decades. The spirited and energetic style of the march makes it a "must play" for festival competition or concert performance.

The Great Land Run - Anderson
An exciting journey through the old west, "The Great Land Run" paints an exhilarating picture of 1889 Oklahoma. A fanfare-like main theme at the beginning is followed by the night around the campfire. As the settlers rest, a gentle storm washes over them bringing forth the questions of what tomorrow may bring. As morning rises, they head back on their way to stake their plot of land and new life. A powerful recap of the main theme drives this piece to an exciting end. With multiple opportunities for solos in the flute, clarinet, oboe, and trumpet, this piece will offer a fun, yet challenging experience for any concert band! Highly recommended!
