Secrets of the Savoy (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Haan, Jacob

This composition musically reveals the secrets of the former Duchy of Savoy. The slow, almost magical beginning describes the beautiful mountain location of the merged villages of La Motte-Servolex. The vastness of the Alps is echoed in the lyrical theme, which is followed by a faster, march-like section. After the romantic, almost religious middle section, the fast motif returns and the composition ends with a blissful final theme.Duration: 9.30

Hobbits (from Symphony No.1: The Lord of the Rings) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Meij, Johan

Johan de Meij's first symphony The Lord of the Rings is based on the trilogy of that name by J.R.R. Tolkien. This book has fascinated many millions of readers since its publication in 1955. The symphony consists of five separate movements, each illustrating a personage or an important episode from the book. The fifth movement expresses the carefree and optimistic character of the Hobbits in a happy folk dance; the hymn that follows emanates the determination and noblesse of the hobbit folk. The symphony does not end on an exuberant note, but is concluded peacefully and resigned, in keeping with the symbolic mood of the last chapter, The Grey Havens, in which Frodo and Gandalf sail away in a white ship and disappear slowly beyond the horizon. Vaktparade (March of the Castle Guard) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Strand, Oyvind

When visiting Oslo I always try to manage to see the Castle Guards Parade marching from Akershus Fortress to the Royal Castle (in the summer season). There is always a feeling of spirit and solemnity when the military band leads the procession through the city and the Karl Johan Street up to the Castle, for the changing of the Castle Guards. A dear tradition for the locals as well as visitors to the Norwegian capitol. This march was composed after watching one of these parades in spring of 2018.The First military band to play the march was the Royal Norwegian Marine Band.- Oyvind StrandDuration: 3.45

Guardians of the Waves (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip

Guardians of the Waves was commissioned by the Japan Coast Guard Band to celebrate their 30th anniversary in 2018. They gave the premiere as part of a 30th anniversary concert on November 8th that year. Set in traditional march form, Guardians of the Waves opens with a short introduction, which leads to the main theme, played initially by the brass and then repeated with a florid woodwind descant. The theme is extended and morphs into a second theme, first played tutti and then quietly repeated by bassoon, tenor sax and euphonium. This leads to a conventional 'bass strain', played twice with varying accompaniments. A quieter trio section follows, delicately scored and featuring the tenor instruments of the band. Taken up by the full band, this leads back to a recall of the introduction and a return to the main two themes, which lead to a triumphal close. Duration: 4.00
