Shichi-Go-San (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sakai, Itaru
In Japan, a traditional festival called "Shichi-Go-San" (Seven-Five-Three) is held on November 15th every year to wish for the wholesome growth of girls aged seven, boys aged five and children aged three. The composer imagined how a seven-year-old sister with five and three-year-old brothers would go through various happenings, have fun visiting a shrine and strengthen their bonds. Reflecting the meaning of its title, Shichi-Go-San uses a lot of irregular time signatures to form a witty and resplendent concert piece.Duration: 7:00

Polonaise (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Dvorak, Antonin - Van der Beek, Wil
The year 2004 marked the 100th anniversary of the death of Antonin Dvorak. In 1879 Dvorak wrote this Polonaise as a commission for the committee organising the festivities for their famous national dance festival. Many famous Czech composers wrote dances specially for this event. This Polonaise in three movements, with its fine melody lines, deserves to be more than just an occasional work, however. Wil van der Beek's concert band arrangement does justice to the original piece.Duration: 5:45

Symphonic Variations (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Johnson, Stuart
Symphonic Variations was commissioned by Swindon Young Musicians' Club with funds provided by the W H Smith Arts Programme, and first performed by Swindon Young Musicians, conducted by Bramwell Tovey, at the Wyvern Theatre on January 29, 1989. The opening theme, stated in a Maestoso unison, provides the musical kernel for the entire work. The composer cleverly exploits all the rhythmic possibilities inherent within the chosen theme to provide a piece which is serious enough for detailed study and Festival usage, yet entertaining at the same time.
