Phantom Regiment - Leroy Anderson
This work was written by Leroy Anderson in 1951 and premiered by him when he recorded it for Decca. Interestingly, in 1956 the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps of Rockford, Illinois changed their original name from the Rockford Rangers after having heard the piece played by a different corps. The music emulates the sound of distant trumpets and soldiers marching, drawing closer to the listener bit by bit. As the music gains strength, the marching and trumpets get louder and after passing the audience, it slowly fades away as they disappear into the distance again. This exclusive Southern band edition by Mark Rogers reintroduces Anderson's enchanting work to new generations of audiences.

£72.99Flying Colors - Robert Buckley
Imagine a band far off in the distance marching toward you - soft at first, the music becomes louder and louder: the red capes of the band sway in the wind, getting closer and closer. It was this image that inspired Flying Colors.Famed bandmaster Arthur Delamont always programmed a march in his concerts, and the hallmark of his band was their red capes. The work begins very softly with a distant snare drum beat. The trumpets enter quietly with the melody, and with each new melodic entry the music grows and intensifies to a roaring finish. This is a fresh new take on a march, and is sure to please players and audiences alike! Flying Colors is the third movement of A Tribute toArthur Delamont and was commissioned by the West Vancouver Youth Band. Dur: 3:10

Let Freedom Ring is an arrangement of the famous song America, also known as My Country Tis of Thee. While information on who and when the actual melody was composed is disputed it is known that the melody was a very well known tune. This setting begins and ends with a bold fanfare that is stately and majestic with snare drum interjections played softly with the melody, as if to represent a marching army from far away. The full band enters on the final statement of the melody for a broad, sustained, and majestic finale.

£91.99Parade of the Clockwork Soldiers - Philip Sparke
This piece was inspired by the composer watching his young son, Benny, playing 'soldiers' with his collection of teddy bears - how appropriate! But it made him think of the many character pieces which take the form of a 'toy march', the most notable examples being by Haydn, Tchaikovsky and Leon Jessel. Parade of the Clockwork Soldiers is in the form of a 'patrol' (starting and ending quietly with a louder middle) and aims to represent a band marching past the listener. In fact, where the hall layout permits it, it could be possible to add a little choreography to the piece, starting and ending with only a few instruments on stage.
