Epic March (Concert Band - Score Only) - Ireland, John - Brand, Geoffrey

This march falls squarely in the tradition started by Elgars Pomp and Circumstance set through Waltons Crown Imperial and is a fitting companion to these all. Written in 1942 to a commission by the BBC the march was first performance in its original version in the Proms Concert Series at the Royal albert Hall. Unusually for a wind band piece there is an optional organ part, taken from Irelands original orchestral score.

Conductor's March (Concert Band - Score and Parts)

Conductor's March is a deft and witty concert march. A conductor should always strive to motivate his musicians and to stay one step ahead of his orchestra--this is the motto and idea behind this piece. First it takes the form of a drum solo which represents the constantly driving force of the conductor. Gradually the musicians fall into line and eventually a cheerful music-making ensemble emerges. 04:55

March Prelude: Alnwick Town - Philip Sparke

March Prelude: Alnwick Town was commissioned by the Alnwick Playhouse Concert Band (with Ray Thompson as conductor) to celebrate their first 25 years. It opens majestically with answering phrases between various sections of the band, leading to a faster march-like section its main theme echoes the rhythms of the opening material. A bridge passage featuring snippets for saxophones and trumpets leads to a new theme, more legato in nature and repeated after a change of key. The bridge passage returns to herald a restatement of the main theme before the opening material reappears to close the work with a flourish.

The Red Shield - Score and Parts - Henry Goffin

Program NotesPossibly one of The Salvation Army's most popular marches, both as a street march and a concert item, The Red Shield was written to acknowledge The Salvation Army's work with Her Majesty's Armed Forces. Red Shield Clubs have for many years been an integral part of service life, both in the UK and abroad. This is a superbly crafted march that contains all the essential ingredients one expects from the genre. Although the thematic material will be largely unfamiliar, it has real energy and character and will surely prove to be as popular in this wind band version as it continues to be in its original band form.

    Monck's March - Nigel Hess

This concert overture, commissioned by the Band of the Coldstream Guards in 2002, tells the story of General Monck's historic journey involving seven thousand troops on the arduous march from Coldstream to London during the winter of 1660. The Directorate

Written by John Philip Sousa in appreciation of an honor awarded him by the Board of Directors of the 1893 St. Louis Exposition, The Directorate was one of the first pieces Sousa composed for his newly formed Sousa Band. Featuring lively wind parts, contrasting dynamics, interesting harmonic twists in the trio, and a rousing final strain, this march is ideal for teaching the classic march style. Rescored for the contemporary concert band's instrumentation from Sousa's original Carl Fischer composition, this march is now ready to be discovered by a new generation of performers.
