Commissioned by the Richardson (TX) Community Band, Silver Celebration commemorates 25 years of service by their conductor, George Jones. The work combines elements of traditional march style with the bravura of epic film scores,resulting in a piece that is both festive and celebratory in nature. The opening is a rousing 6/8 march featuring various sections of the band and exciting cross rhythms, and then contrasted with a beautifully flowing lyricstatement. Imagine a band far off in the distance marching toward you - soft at first, the music becomes louder and louder: the red capes of the band sway in the wind, getting closer and closer. It was this image that inspired Flying Colors.Famed bandmaster Arthur Delamont always programmed a march in his concerts, and the hallmark of his band was their red capes. The work begins very softly with a distant snare drum beat. The trumpets enter quietly with the melody,and with each new melodic entry the music grows and intensifies to a roaring finish. This is a fresh new take on a march, and is sure to please players and audiences alike! Flying Colors is the third movement of A Tribute toArthur Delamont and was commissioned by the West Vancouver Youth Band. Dur: 3:10

Lion City Festival was commissioned as one of the test pieces for the Singapore Youth Festival 2010, an annual event at which school ensembles from throughout Singapore can receive gold, silver or bronze awards for their performance. The English name for Singapore comes from Malay Singapura, which has Sanskrit roots meaning 'Lion City'. Lion City Festival is in the form of a quick march in ABA form. An opening fanfare leads to a perky march tune which is taken up by the full band. A change of key heralds a legato trio section before the main theme returns in varied form. Roaring fun!

On Parade - Edwin Franko Goldman
