A Sousa Celebration is the arranger's collection of excerpts from several of Sousa's interesting marches, creating a patriotic presentation of greater length than the typical march. This selection includes a variety of content, offering a showpiece to several sections of the band: Hail to the Spirit of Liberty, composed for the Paris Exposition of 1900, for the unveiling of the Lafayette Monument on July 4; Yorktown Centennial (1881), written to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the last important battle of the Revolutionary War: the surrender at Yorktown; Mother Hubbard March (1885), based on nursery rhymes; "Three Blind Mice," "Thus the Farmer Sows His Seed," "Old Mother Hubbard," "Hey Diddle Diddle," "Little Redbird in the Tree," "London Bridge is Falling Down," "Scotland the Brave," and "The Minstrel Boy." The celebration concludes with excerpts from Sousa's most celebrated march, The Stars and Stripes Forever.

The English composer Sir Edward Elgar wrote the five Pomp and Circumstance marches between 1901 and 1930, the time of the British Empire, when the colonial and strategic world power of England was at its peak. March No. 3 in C minor, although less well-known then March No.1, was regarded by the composer as the most successful of the marches in terms of composition technique and musical content. The dark colours of the minor tonality and the hopeful sounding cantabile theme are extremely impressive, giving the march its unique character. The through-arch bridge that is visible for miles across the Cheshire Gap is one of two adjacent bridges that cross both the River Mersey and Manchester Ship Canal. Its formal name is the Silver Jubilee Bridge is more usually known as the Runcorn Bridge. Runcorn Bridge begins with a brief, quiet, introduction featuring an oboe solo. There follows a lively march at the end of which a reflective interlude (or bridge!) based upon the tune that occurs twice in the march leads to a lyrical, almost nocturnal section spotlighting the alto saxophone. A variant of the first interlude leads to a scherzo-like section kicked off by the euphonium with a 'trio' that contains a Latin-inflected version of the oboe melody first heard in the introduction. A third interlude variant heralds a return of the nocturnal melody firstly as a horn solo but subsequently returning to the alto saxophone. Previous melodic materials gradually combine as an extended crescendo leads to a majestic, but short, coda that in a gesture of symmetrical solidarity refers back to the march tune utilised in the earlier interludes. It was composed for and dedicated to those wounded in the army, paying tribute to their courage, resilience, and inner strength. Through a musical style rich in emotion and power, this work celebrates the "survivors" - those who, despite the hardships of war and injury, continue to pick themselves up, overcome adversity, and find within themselves an unshakeable determination. Survivors embodies both the enormity of the struggle and the hope of reconstruction, a march for those who have been wounded but who, through their courage, have become survivors. This concert march was commissioned by the French Army bands on the initiative of their musical director, Maurice Marc.
