Modern wind music in the style of the great Big Bands was the model for the composition Band Fever by Otto M. Schwarz. It was written on commission of the prestigious South Tyrolese concert band, Symphonic Winds. The piece features two soloists, one saxophone and one flugel. Rhythms like Hip Hop Style and Double Samba support a catchy melody, which is later taken up by the full band, forming the basis for the above-mentioned soloists' improvisations. A unique work in the world of wind music, Band Fever allows both soloists and conductor to display individuality and creativity. Concerto for Trumpet No.1 'Trumpet Town' (Concert Band - Score and Parts)
A rapid flourish in 12/8 time opens composer Otto M. Schwarz' first Concerto for trumpet Trumpet Town, written in October 2009. The metric changes that follow affect the pulse rhythmically and melodically, in exciting and unexpected ways. The solo trumpet's displays of technical prowess and bravura alternate with the film-score-like tutti sections of the brass ensemble. The slow, almost elegiac, central section can be performed on the flugelhorn, while the closing reprise demands that both the soloist and the orchestra give of their best as the piece comes to an exciting, colourful, and uplifting finale. Costa del Sol
"Costa Del Sol" (Coast of the Sun) creates a musical panorama of the beautiful Mediterranean coastline of the M?laga province in southern Spain. Based upon series of chord progressions common to generations of Spanish flamenco guitarist, David Shaffer has crafted a spirited and beautiful setting of three authentic Spanish folk dance forms, the Corrida, Jota and the Fandango. This energetic and captivating composition opens with a fiery statement reminiscent of the traditional Spanish bullfights. A quick folk dance in ? (Jota) follows, utilizing traditional Spanish percussion. The middle section is introduced with a lush alto saxophone solo leading into a lyrical folk dance (Fandango). The fiery Jota returns in two separate but distinct forms to conclude the piece. An excellent contest piece, "Costa Del Sol" will captivate your audiences with the beautiful imagery of the Spanish countryside.
