The 'suite Arogno' is a musical evocation of the history of this small village on the Alps, at the border with Italy. The first movement describes the travel of architect Adamo da Arogno to Trento where he will build the cathedral (13th century). The second movement celebrates the entry of Arogno into the Swiss Confederation in 1516. In the third movement you can hear the invasion of the Austrian troops in 1799. The fourth movement describes the complex move of a complete clock factory from the Jura Canton to Arogno in 1873 and the last movement evokes the arrival of the first postal car in 1925.

Using three varying images from pursuits on the water, 'The Big Splash' has moments of excitement, soft melodies and crunching harmonies. Each section is given an opportunity to shine in this 3-part original work. Movement I entitled 'Launching' sets the scene of a speedboat accelerating into the water. 'Drifting' (mov. II) portrays images of the sunset over the water's edge and in the minor key there is a sense of thoughtfulness as well as tranquillity. The last movement has a grander feel to it. Titled 'Cruising' there are moments you can imagine a larger carrier chip setting sail as well as a sense of anticipation and excitement from those climbing aboard. Dominik Ertl (1857-1911) was subsequently musician, drum major and assistant conductor with the Band of the Austrian Infantry Regiment Number 4, better known as the 'Hoch-und Deutschmeister Regiment'. He was very popular in the fashionable Vienna high society of the last decades of the nineteenth century. He left the army to tour all over Europe with his own orchestra. He composed some ten marches but only the 'Hoch- und Deutschmeister' march became internationally famous. It is of course dedicated to the illustrious regiment and, though considered as the most musical of all Austrian military marches, it never became the official regimental march.

The Dutch composer and conductor Ton Kotter (Aalten 1906 -1991) was trumpeter-violinist with the Royal Marine Band before being appointed conductor of the Nijmegen Police Band. He conducted a lot of amateur wind bands (a.o. in Helmond, Nijmegen, Tilburg, Hilvarenbeek, Glanerbrug, Enschede and Loon op Zand) and for these bands he wrote several fine marches. Among his best-known marches are 'Hunter March' (1976) and 'Ambiorix' (1976). 'All-In', probably his last march, was composed in 1981 for the 70th anniversary of the symphonic band 'Excelsior' at Eibergen, conducted by the composer.

The plot of this overture takes place in the year 3000 A.D. At that time traffic between the earth and the planets relies exclusively on space flights. War as a last resort to "settle" arguments between people on earth no longer exists. There is only one gigantic spacecraft which is able to navigate both above and beneath the surface that supervises the oceans. This vessel, the "Lord of Seven Seas", is a hundred times larger than the "Nautilus" or the "Titanic" and must not be compared to any ship of our times. In the introduction of the overture, the gigantic vessel is presented by employing a musical style which is commonly associated with space flights. The introduction isfollowed by a fragment, which evokes the wild fury of rain and storm, and therefore reminds us of the story of the "Flying Dutchman". The middle section is written as a barcarole. The vessel investigates the local fauna in the depths of the Arctic Ocean. People on board enjoy the calmness as well as the variety and beauty of the animals. In the final part, the gigantic vessel emerges from below the surface and climbs to high altitudes flying from one ocean to the other. The magnificent finale portrays once again the incomparable sight which is offered by the impressive "Lord of Seven Seas".

In the Non Valley, during spring when the water of Lake Santa Giustina starts lowering, the old main traffic system and the steep terrain with the Groppello vineyards resurface. The majestic and uncompromising Mount Ozolo dominates this landscape and acts like a guard of the fertile valley. The people who had to walk along the Regiai road to leave their village in search of fortune keep those memories very alive. Their trip started by descending the valley along the Regiai road, walking through the luxuriant vineyards that were supported by dry stone walls, downright mosaics of stones built to help the growth of the vineyard. Those who left and casted a glance at their village for one last time could catch sight of the Ozolo, the mountain of the primordial man, of hunting and friendship. They also had to cross a bold stone bridge that still exists and is jealously safeguarded by the lake water, which has also sunken together with the bridge hectares of vineyards of Groppello, the vine of the traditional and vigorous wine produced in the Non Valley. Its name is said to come from the typical structure of the grapes, which are compact and resemble a thick tangle ("groppo" in local dialect), almost a defense against the shifting temperatures of the fall that gives the grapes a bright color and a honey-like sweetness. The production at the end of the nineteenth century was of circa fifty thousand hectoliters of wine, but today it has reduced to only five hundred hectoliters produced by about thirty courageous farmers who want to preserve an authentic patrimony of taste and flavor. These wine makers have the will to safeguard a vineyard that is at risk of extinction and work the land as they used to do many years ago: with hoe, shovel, and a lot of sweat! The Groppello vineyard extended to the bottom of Mount Ozolo, but on the higher slopes the more rigid temperatures allowed only for the growth of pines, spruces, larches, broad-leaved trees, and pastures. In the course of the years, this typical vegetation of the mountain has provided the population with the raw material to build houses, to keep warm during the winter, and to feed the animals. Mount Ozolo has also been since ancient times the "sacred" mountain of the valley, and today it has become a game preserve and a site of socialization for young people who know how to love and respect nature.
