Triqui-Traqui - Paul Desenne
Commissioned by Gustavo Dudamel for his 2017 New Year's concert with the Vienna Philharmonic, my Caribbean reinterpretation of Strauss' famous Tritsch-Tratsch Polka was deemed tooosefor the occasion, yet the maestro recorded it that year, not in Vienna but in Caracas, with the fabulous performers of his orchestra, the Orquesta Sinfnica Simn Bolvar, and published it on the web as his musical New Year's greetings card. The gesture was meaningful, and bold. I'm convinced that Johann Strauss, a man immersed in the fashions of his city and his time, would have loved the idea; a musical collage which carries in its banter a very strong aesthetic statement. The lightest and most frivolous things seem to always carry the deepest messages, let us not forget. ... ... Today, this version of my transformed Tritsch- Tratsch Polka forSymphonic Band created by Steve Boehm, will certainly tickle the Viennese in each and every one of us, and we will be very happy!"

Le Cygne - Camille Saint-Saens
Le carnaval des animaux (The Carnival of the Animals) is a humorous musical suite of fourteen movements by French composer Camille Saint-Sans. Le Cygne is the 13th movement of the suite, originally scored for two pianos and cello: the lushly romantic cello solo (which evokes the swan elegantly gliding over the water) is played over rippling sixteenths in one piano and rolled chords in the other (said to represent the swan's feet, hidden from view beneath the water, propelling it along). It has become a staple of the cello repertoire and one of the most well-known movements of the suite. Many other arrangements of this movement have also been published, with solo instruments ranging from flute to alto saxophone. Dutch arranger Andreas van Zoelen arranged this movement for solo cello with accompaniment of a small Wind Ensemble.

King Karl King - Henry Fillmore
Originally written for a film (The Big Brass Band) that was never made, this terrific but little-known march turned out to be the last march that Fillmore would write. Unusually rich in harmony, it was not published in Fillmore's lifetime. He had asked that it be named After his friend and fellow march composer, Karl L. King, if the movie was not produced.

Gifted Leadership (March) - Henry Fillmore
Gifted Leadership is a most interesting march with some unique scoring that sets it apart from many more ordinary marches. The woodwind parts are especially intriguing, with much more variety and independence than is frequently found in a traditional march. Fillmore wrote this march to honor the leadership of famed band leader and cornet soloist Frank Simon. It is authentically presented here as Fillmore intended, carefully edited by Robert E. Foster.

Lightning Fingers - Henry Fillmore
Lightning Fingers showcases the musical and technical virtuosity of the solo clarinetist in this original work by legendary bandmaster and composer Henry Fillmore. It is a happy, showy display piece which has been enjoyed by generations of performers and audiences alike. The solo was written for Louise Reztke, who Fillmore referred to as the Phantom Clarinetist. Reztke was the soloist for Fillmore's own band and was featured many times on their radio broadcasts. Robert Foster's new edition cleans up some inconsistencies present in older editions and makes it accessible to a new generation of band musicians.

Sir Dirk Bross, music director at the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra, is a versatile composer of orchestral and symphonic repertoire, chamber music, film & musical. His compositions are performed worldwide by the most prominent orchestras and soloists. About the new series of 10 "Musical Postcards" for wind band, Dirk says the following: "Composing is a commitment; it is my life's mission. For me composing means creating a vacuum around myself and allowing myself to be submerged by impressions. It is a continual struggle between fantasy and reality, between dream and reality. Out of chaos of sounds and emotions I try to order my thoughts by juggling shreds of melodies, original chords, striking sound colours and alternating rhythms. Melody, harmony, rhythm and sound colours are finally balanced to generate a harmonious universe. This series of ten 'Musical Postcards' are a reflection of my travels, thoughts, discoveries and musical career so far, which has brought me around the globe.
