"Kerberos" was written to Norwegian band Eidanger Pike- og guttekorps, Sigurd Skramsett conductor.When Sigurd Skramsett got in touch and wanted to commision a piece for their anniversary concert in November, I immediately thought of composing a piece about his role in the local bands. He has conducted the band for 15 years and has been important to the whole banding community in Telemark, Norway. My meeting with Sigurd in the summer of 2019 was at Dirigentuka (Conductors week) in Stavanger. We conducted many different types of music, including a blues by Torstein Aagard-Nilsen. All of the music at the course has inspired me in this piece.The name Sigurd originates from Norse mythology and means 'victory' and 'guardian'. KERBEROS is the three-headed dog guarding the entrance to the underworld of Greek mythology. Three heads, representing the past, present and future, became three movements representing three styles, and moods, in this work.Kjetil Djnne

"Candles in Advent" is a beautiful melody with great lyrics. It was originally written for an Norwegian Advent TV-series in 1985.In this arrangement, the oboe has some solo passages (cue notes in flute). I Have tried to vary the instrumentation without going beyond the beautiful Christmas mood.The harmonization is simple and functional. Let the soloists "speak" with good phrasing and focus also on harmony in the unison melody lines. Good balance and intonation in the accompaniment can make the performance a little gem on the Christmas concert.- Reid Gilje -

Questo brano stato scritto in occasione del 150mo anniversario di fondazione del Corpo Musicale di Settimo Torinese. Se vogliamo fare un paragone con l'arte pittorica, si tratta di un trittico, cio l'insieme di tre distinti quadri, ciascuno dei quali rappresenta un aspetto significativo della citt di Settimo Torinese. Il primo quadro, che si rif ad alcune formule stilistiche della "marcia", rappresenta la Banda, che da 150 anni simbolo ed espressione "sonora" della comunit. Il secondo quadro, di carattere pi intimistico, rapprenta la Chiesa e si ispira allo stile del "corale", pur non avendone la canonica forma. Il terzo ed ultimo quadro rappresenta invece la Torre e quindi, non solo le istituzioni che governano la citt, ma anche i cittadini che vivono all'ombra di essa: da qui il tema popolare e lo stile di "danza" che lo caratterizza.

£98.20San Carlo - Lorenzo Pusceddu
Ugo Papurello, president of the ''I Filarmonici'' band from San Carlo Canavese (Turin), commissioned this piece to celebrate the group's twentieth anniversary. The opening fanfare is an eloquent and fitting introduction to a solemn celebration. It is followed by the allegro, which has a modal feel and is characterised by a succession of rhythms representing the liveliness ad enthusiasm that have always characterised this band. The andante symbolises a moment of reflection and nostalgic reminiscence. The allegro is repeated as an expression of the hope that the band will continue to set itself increasingly ambitious goals. The fanfare brings back the joyous atmosphere of this special occasion and sets a formal seal on the band's twentieth anniversary.

Two Poems of Robert Frost - David Campo
Robert Frost (1874 - 1963) was one of the most popular, widely read and honored American poets of the 20th century; the two of his poems arguably most popular in the mainstream are "Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening" and "The Road Not Taken." On the surface, these two poems appear quite different; "Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening" is contemplative, set in the quietude of a winter night's snow, while "The Road Not Taken" is decisive, kinetic and brightly lit by a morning sun. These similarities and differences resonated deeply with the composer, and the opportunity to set recurring themes and melodies in such contrasting musical environments was the impetus and inspiration for this two movement work. Both movements conjure the remarkably different atmospheres of the respective poems but are interconnected thematically, giving the work cohesion and depth. Both are strikingly colorful and evocative. While the poems are not set literally, there are recurring allusions to the words present in the rhythm, particularly in the phrase "and miles to go before I sleep," as this line seems to especially reflect the physical and spiritual duality of both poems.

£56.50Vermilion River Serenade - David Campo
The Vermilion River runs through the heart of my hometown of Lafayette, LA. It was created when the ancient course of the Mississippi River, which originally ran through the area that is now Lafayette, shifted from west to east and left a channel through the plains. While originally home to the Atakapa-Ishak and Canneci (Lipan Apache) Tribes and the competing Choctaw Tribes, between the years 1765 and 1785 the first great wave of immigration occurred in South Louisiana and Acadian exiles settled the area. They created a profitable fur and deerskin trading business along the Vermilion River, and the Old Spanish Trail reached the Vermilion right about where the village of Vermilionville (later Lafayette) was founded. Subsequently, the town grew and flourished on both sides of the Vermilion. The tranquil river and its scenic banks, adorned with live oaks draped in Spanish moss, provided the backdrop for early Cajun life as the river was a source of food, communication, travel and commerce. This piece is a "postcard;" an homage to my culture and to the river that brings me great peace every time I encounter its pastoral beauty and serenity.

£75.00Sonata - Derek Bourgeois
This work, composed in 1998, was commissioned by the American trombonist Don Lucas as a work for trombone and piano and first performed by him in Birmingham on 19th May 2000. Subsequently, I arranged the music for both solo trombone and brass band and solo trombone and wind band so that it now exists in three formats. The first movement, in B flat major, is brisk and energetic, and is cast in sonata form. The second subject is gentler and more lyrical. The second movement, a scherzo in C major, is the most complex of the four. Basically the structure is a rond. For a long time the music remains in the opening 5/8 time until a new theme introduces more broken rhythms in a more jazzy idiom. After a return of the opening theme the following episode is more tonally ambiguous. Finally, the main theme returns to round off the movement. The third movement, a lyrical adagio, is really one long extended melodic flow. The harmonies are lush and the textures simple and direct. The tonal center is A minor, but the music meanders through so many keys, that this key centre is heavily disguised. The finale is a fiery affair. G minor is really its home key, but throughout the movement the music moves about a lot and the second subject is first heard in A flat minor. The movement's underlying sonata structure is masked not only by its loose tonality but also by its frequently changing time signatures. Like the first movement the second subject is more lyrical in nature and for a while it seems that the music will end peacefully, but a final flurry heralds a triple forte unison on the home note of the first movement - B flat. This highly original new work uses creative techniques to increase both the aural and the visual resources of the modern concert band, effectively creating an exciting new rhythmic musical adventure. The title alludes to the use of hand clapping as an integral part of the composition. The composer states, "I intended the use of the clapping to be an integral part of the fabric of the piece. It is not a novelty piece."
