Composed with high school performers in mind, the suite was inspired by an 1890s photograph and descriptions of a Wisconsin town's "Old Settlers" celebration. MORNING PARADE starts the holiday with cheerful Americana in folksong style, framed by a fanfare-like march.

The work is written in a typically Greek style: two sirtakis are employed and the piece closes with acharacteristic Greek presto. Greek sounds are also incorporated into the slower passages.
