There are people who are capable of planning well. They live their lives in a well-structured manner and know exactly what they have to do. On the other hand, there are also people who are the exact opposite: they want to do too many things at once and are often somewhat absent-minded, which occasionally results in frantic situations. The outcome of one such situation is 'They are coming'. John Emerson Blackstone had been working on a new composition for some time when he received a telephone call from his editor, who told him that the deadline was approaching rapidly, even worse, that it would expire at the end of that same day and that he would drop by in person to fetch the composition! Blackstone set to work in a frenzy and completed the last details. When his editor arrived, the piece was finished ..... and got its definitive title: 'They are coming'. 02:30

Franz Leh?r was born in Kom?rom, Hungary on 30th April 1870. From the age of fifteen he received composition and violin lessons at the Prague conservatory from Anton?n Dvor?k. In 1905 he composed The Merry Widow which became an instant worldwide success. The libretto of this operetta provides a succession of intimate arias and duets with festive ensembles. The inspiration for this piece came when the composer visited Florida and the Bird Sanctuary in Walt Disney World's Animal Kingdom. He was in the audience to see the rare bird show where he witnessed some fabulous looking and endangered birds that were trained to perform different tricks that wowed the audience. The highlight for him was the conclusion of the show where the most awesome sight greeted us as an American Bald Eagle soared over the audience. That particular breed of Eagle has been a very rare bird of late. With so few in numbers, it nearly became a member of the sad group of animals that are extinct.The host of the show took great delight in informing the audience that the fantastic creature is now officially safe and no longer classed as endangered. This made a great impact on the composer as the Eagle is an amazing bird, huge in size and power and yet so graceful in flight. This piece is everything associated with the Eagle; bold, powerful and graceful and now free to soar and sing in the American homelands.Where Eagles Sing has been hugely successful as a curtain-raiser (or finale) with brass bands around the world and it is hoped that this version for concert band will be just as popular.Duration: 4.00

Concerto for Horn No.2 in Eb - Rondo (Last Movement) - Score and Parts - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Mozart's Horn Concerto No. 2 in Eb, completed on 27 May 1783 was possibly the first of the four horn concertos to be written despite its number. It was composed for Mozart’s lifelong friend Ignaz Leitgeb whom he liked to poke much fun as the original manuscript demonstrated in the concertos sub heading ‘Wolfgang Amad? Mozart has taken pity with the Leitgeb ass, ox and fool.' There are also comedic moments in this last movement towards the close where there are gaps in the music and an accelerated coda section.

Although the deeply spiritual words of Share My Yoke may be unfamiliar to some, the sheer beauty of the melody is without doubt. Shenandoah - Score and Parts - Leonard Ballantine
Program NotesCanadian Salvation Army officer Leonard Ballantine is a gifted and talented musician with a wonderful talent for composing and arranging for both instrumental and vocal ensembles.Among the many compositions he has written is this beautiful arrangement of the American folk song Shenandoah. It was originally conceived as a brass band arrangement and published in 1998. It has also appeared as a vocal setting, but has now been faithfully transcribed for wind band by Brian Bowen and we are all sure that this will prove to be a popular addition to the repertoire.
