Absolute Crossover - Otto M. Schwarz
This composition is made up of three themes, which feature all thefacets of the instrumentation of a concert band as well as that ofa big band. The symphonic passages, reminiscent of film music, enable the full tone and colour of the concert band to be heard, whilst the big band sound is represented in the rock segments andslow swing sections. The musical journey travels along practicallyall styles, ending with an impressive tutti, in which the shufflerhythm of the big band melts together with the grand, classic filmmusic sound of the concert band.

The Verdict - Otto M. Schwarz
The Verdict shows Otto Schwarz great skill at composing Concert Band items in his typical imaginative film musical style. It tells the tale of two brothers who differed greatly, one was handsome and the other a huntchback. The huntchback stabbed his brother after he had taken his bride from him and for this was sentenced to death. He was given a last minute reprise when he told of a spring that would end the local drought. An epic tale of love and revenge!

Infinity and Beyond... - Philip Sparke
The last decades of the 20th century saw man's first steps in space exploration. Since the first moon landing by Neil Armstrong in 1969, these adventures in outer space have captured the public's imagination and have given birth to scores of science fiction movies, books and TV series that have tackled the subject. Infinity and Beyond... takes as its inspiration the wonderful film scores of composers such as John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith, who have almost invented a style which could be called 'space music'.Opening with a rhythmic bass figure, Infinity and Beyond... begins with a robust introduction in 3/4, which leads to the main theme in 4/4, played by the full band. Ashort bridge passage, utilising the interval of a fourth, leads to a modal central section, featuring first the trumpets and then played by the whole band; this in turn leads back to a repeat of the introduction until the main theme returns to bring the piece to a close.

Cast Away (End Credits) - Alan Silvestri
In 2000, the movie Cast Away stormed into cinemas and received two Oscar nominations in the process. It follows the story of a man (played by Tom Hanks) who gets stranded on an island after the plane he is traveling on crashes. As the sole survivor, he does his best to keep himself alive while facing a rather bleak situation. An interesting feature about this film is that after hearing an Elvis song and a Russian choir, no music is heard again until the end of the movie, over 100 minutes later! Aidan Thomas creates a moving arrangement of the end credits music.

Aldacum - Willy Fransen
The name "Aldacum" (alder wood) dates from the period of the Roman occupation, and is the Latin name of the brewing town Alken in the Belgian province of Limburg. The Koninklijke Harmonie Sint-Aloysius of Alken commissioned this concert march; the occasion was the 100th anniversary of the concert band. Aldacum is stylistically reminiscent of John Williams' film scores, and will surely also appeal to a wide audience.
