Wedding March is, as the name suggests, a festive composition that the composer wrote for the wedding of a good friend. Performed at the 2008 Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, this piece clearly reflects influences ofMendelssohn and Elgar. It is written in a festive setting, but a beautiful cantabile trio, that is very characteristic of the works of Jan van der Roost, is wonderfully included. An optional organ part is included for those whochose to add a little gloss to their performance. Dur: 5:15 (Grade 4)

Slow March with Celebration - Timothy Broege
Slow March takes as its structural inspiration the traditional New Orleans funeral music played by brass bands. A slow dirge is played as the funeral cortege exits from the church and begins the journey toward the cemetary, afterwhich the music becomes festive and up-tempo to send the soul off to a happier place. A fanfare introduces This festive march is introduced by a lively fanfare which leads into the first, playful, melodic line which features a regular dynamic alternation and a light syncopated rhythm. After the traditional bass solo, the first theme returns. The initial theme, performed by piano and cantabile trio, later sounds in a jubilant forte with various figurations in the higher woodwinds. The opera-ballet Mlada was an epic project involving six different Russian composers including Mussorgsky, Borodin and Rimsky-Korsakov. Unfortunately the work didn't ever receive a performance however the festive march assumed a life of its own in an orchestration by Rimsky-Korsakov.
