The Centurions (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Curnow, James
The final bars of Centurions take Grade 1 music to new heights of excitement! Artful composition for the first year band with limited ranges and rhythms makes this one you'll use again and again. Some easy use of 16th notes (for the Snare Drum only) helps to generate that extra bit of energy that lifts this one over the top while keeping the Percussion parts interesting for the players. Flute fingerings are kept easily manageable throughout and Brass ranges are carefully controlled. Appropriate for any concert, Centurions will inspire your young musicians to a bold and dramatic performance. Excellent for cross-curriculum teaching with history.Duration: 2:00

Panache (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Fraser, Bruce
The work has a military feel in the opening fanfare, but settles down to an angular melody with frequent changes in time signature. The middle section should be played expressively and maintain a good flow. The speed of the Allegro is most likely to be determined by the agility of the trombone section in the unison running quavers. There is the possibility of adding extra drummers near the end - a drum corps was used behind the Band in the first performance making a stunning effect.

Diagram (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Waignein, Andre
The story of the origin of Diagram for Symphonic Band is a curious one. Andre Waignein was enjoying a meal together with his great friend Jean-Marie Vivier - representative director of l'Oreal Belgilux and the same man who made the performance of the famous Cantate aux Etoiles, with 750 performers possible. Jean Plaquet, an appreciated associate of both gentlemen was also present. As an acknowledgement, Andre Waignein wanted to dedicate a composition to the band where Mr. Vivier has been chairman for 20 years. In connection with this, Andre Waignein was supposed to receive some extra information about the 120 years old history of this band, which has always been led by a member of the Vivier family. In a flash this history was presented : using a diagram Mr. Vivier drew the power-lines of this more than 100 year old band. And of course, the title was found ! The only thing left to do, was for Andre Waignein to transform this diagram into music.Duration: 13:45

Canterbury Chorale (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Van der Roost, Jan
This quiet piece with its broad tones was originally written for brass band on request of Robert Leveugle, chairman of the composers own band: Brass Band Midden Brabant (Belgium). The direct cause was a visit to the beautiful cathedral of the English city Canterbury, in which so many fine compositions sounded throughout the centuries. Later on, Jan Van der Roost rescored this piece for symphonic wind band, exploring the full richness of colours of this formation. Besides solo phrases for several instruments, there are some massive tutti passages making the wind orchestra sound like a majestic organ. By the way: an "ad libitum" organ part adds an extra richness, colour and power to this piece, making it sound even more broad and grand.Duration: 6:30
