Le Lion de Belfort was composed for the official inauguration of the sculpture Le Lion de Belfort: an enormous red sandstone lion that dominates the landscape of the French city of Belfort. This 22 metre long and 11 metre high lion symbolises the heroic French resistance during the Prussian siege of Belfort in 1870-1871. The composer added a narrator and three-part choir to the concert band instrumentation, who utilise texts written specially for the occasion by Jean Ehret. The work's premiere took place at the inauguration of Le Lion de Belfort on 28 November 2010, 130 years after sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi (1834-1904) completed the statue.Duration: 9:00

Clair de Lune was originally written for piano, as the 3rd movement of the Suite Bergamasque by French composer Claude Debussy. This arrangement for trombone and wind orchestra was written at the request of Joe Alessi, principal trombone of the New York Philharmonic and internationally renowned soloist. There is an alternative solo part included for alto saxophone.

Sir Roger de Coverley - Frank Bridge
Frank Bridge (1879 – 1941) was one of the leading English composers of his time. In October 1922 he adapted his popular string quartet Sir Roger de Coverley for full symphony orchestra and Sir Henry Wood agreed, at the last minute, to include it in the last night of the Queen’s Hall Promenade Concerts at the end of that month. This elaborate and colourful orchestral version has never been widely performed, but has now been brilliantly transcribed by Alastair Wheeler to provide a miniature dance poem for grade 5 level concert band. Bridge’s lively treatment of one of England’s most famous traditional dance melodies will make a fitting end to any concert, with the strains of Auld Lang Syne introduced by Bridge as a nod towards Sir Roger de Coverley’s traditional function as the final dance of a Christmas Ball, as it was in Old Mr. Fezziwig’s party in Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.

The work premiered on BBC Radio 2 as part of their D-Day broadcast from the Royal Albert Hall on June 6th, 2014.This 4 minute, Grade 5 piece is based on three traditional Normandy folk songs: Les Metamorphoses, Le marchand de velours and Le corselet. An ideal concert opener, the work is a lively dance with suggestions of Renaissance dance music

It is a Spanish style piece in a lilting 3/4 time that will get your developing band off to a great start at your next concert. This Carol Brittin Chambers piece has flowing melodic lines and lots of interplay between the percussion and winds. Carol also explores different colors and textures in the winds to make the piece a more interesting addition to the repertoire for developing band.
