Prelude for an Occasion (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Gregson, Edward

This curtain raiser sets a lively mood by bursting into a fanfare, followed by a short bouncing figure and a lively clarinet solo. Rhythmic bi-play, trombone glissandi and a light-hearted obbligato, all add to the merriment. The opening fanfare returns in extended form, and a final flourish brings the Prelude to a triumphant ending.

Centennial Prelude (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Van der Roost, Jan

This short opening music was composed on commission of the symphonic band of Jan Van der Roost's village (= Kontich near Antwerp / Belgium). In 1991, this community band celebrated its 100th anniversary. After composing commissioned pieces from different countries (even from Japan), this was the most 'near' commission he ever received indeed! It is a short but varied piece, featuring all sections of the band. After a short introduction, played by the brass instruments, a crisp rhythm starts and boxes the main theme. After a second theme, played by brass and percussion, a short melodical passage brings some 'rest'. At the end, the fanfare of the introduction reoccurs. Although this "Centennial Prelude" isn't a really demanding piece, it sounds colourful and energetic. It has been recorded on CD by the band of the 'Royal Dutch Airforce' and the 'Desford Colliery Brass band'.Duration: 3:30

Prelude In The Dorian Mode (Chosen Gems For Winds No.2) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Cabezon, Antonio de - Grainger, Percy

Stately, elegant, and stimulating. The Prelude is a master work scored by a master composer. A wonderful piece to learn about how to balance continuously moving lines. It is the 'individualism' of Grainger's carefully notated interpretive artistry that sets this piece apart from other band arrangements.

Prelude, Opus 28, No. 4 - Chopin, Frederic

One of Frederic Chopin's best known works, Prelude, Op. 28, No. 4, presents emotion-packed performance opportunities for bands at all levels. This new Ed Huckeby transcription for band provides an almost literal translation of Chopin's original work with tremendous musical challenges in both the interpretive and dynamic realms, providing the ensemble an opportunity to explore musical possibilities which might be less attainable in a more technical piece. The recognizable melodic and harmonic structures will make this piece a real "hit" with concert audiences and provides an opportunity to teach the musical styles of the greatest 19th century composer of piano music. Great music!
