A short, two-movement symphony by the masterful David Maslanka, that demonstrates once again the rich possibilities of the wind band in the hands of a composer who understands the creative potential of the medium. The slow and richly scored opening movement makes especially fine use of an expanded percussion section, triadic harmony and melodies with the flavor of an incantation. The second movement is a driving Allegro with a stern, striding C minor theme that dominates the movement until the coda, which ends the piece with a slow, heaven-storming chorale. Despite the title (from The Lord's Prayer), the composer claims a Buddhist inspiration for his piece.

Larry Clark's Adamant is strong from the very beginning helping even the youngest of players sound confident and assertive. The work is set in C minor with simple rhythms no more difficult than two repeated eighth notes. With biting dissonances and angular interjections in the flowing main theme, the piece is quite dramatic for beginning band students. They will want to play it again and again.

Flaming Arrow is written for beginning band, and uses only the first six notes learned in most beginning band methods: Bb to G. The piece is cast in C minor; consequently, an alternate trombone part is provided that does not reach out to sixth position. Beginning with mysterious opening material that is used later in the work, the piece then moves to an aggressive up-tempo section with lots of percussion. This is followed by a return of the slow opening material and a gradual accelerando with the sound of tom-toms. The piece ends with a short coda for an energetic conclusion.

"Kanskje kommer Kongen" ("Perhaps the King is Coming") is yet another example of Knutsen and Ludvigsen's creativity and imagination.The arrangement begins with a short fanfare in the introduction. From letter B, the melody is carried by horn and trombone with a majestic character.Ensure good precision in the accompaniment. From letter C, the style is Latin-inspired, resembling Samba. Alternative percussion solutions are possible here.From letter D, there is a pizzicato effect in 8th-notes, with sonorous melodic lines. The Symphonic Prelude in C minor is an orchestral composition from the circle of the Austrian composer Anton Bruckner. The unearthing of this work, discovered shortly after World War II, has created confusion, leading to a second, reduced version being attributed to Gustav Mahler, a theory which still holds sway in musical circles today, although there is a high probability that the original composition is indeed by Bruckner himself. Rudolf Krzyzanowski (1895-1911), a pupil of Bruckner, transcribed the score in 1876. The 43-page manuscript bears the inscription Rudolf Krzyzanowski cop. 1876 on the first page; while on the last page is written in blue pencil: By Anton Bruckner.Thomas Doss used a facsimile of this autograph copy as the basic of his instrumentation of the prelude for symphonic wind orchestra.
