It is heartfelt and will be a great piece to push the musicianship of your students. Though this piece is technically easy for this level, it is challenging in its sophistication and the depth of emotion and musicianship required to play it well.

Sailing - Yukiko Nishimura
The music of Sailing is characterized by an atmosphere that is vibrant and full of energy. The piece depicts a ship's journey on the ocean, the colors of which can readily change from a rich, welcoming blue to a dark, menacing gray. Sometimes the ship is sprayed by the waves: sometimes the ship floats blithely along a sea of tranquility. Articulations play a prominent role in this piece, with a combination of staccatos and slurs expressing sensations of happiness and joy in the ocean journey. Mountain Dance - Ed Kiefer
Mountain Dance contains three Appalachian folk songs: "Cluck Old Hen," "Sourwood Mountain," and "Poor Polly." It was written to depict the Appalachian region of the country and its heritage of bluegrass music and fine musicianship. Hints offerish music can be heard, as many of the folk songs from this area were developed by the Irish immigrants who settled in this part of the country. Written with the lilt and flavor of the Scottish Highlands, this original Alan Lee Silva piece is a joyous new addition to the concert band repertoire. The pulsing 6/8 rhythms are contrasted by momentary feelings of 3/4, as the melody floats over punctuated harmonies. This piece contains contrast, with a slower middle section featuring a divine flute melody, accompanied by the sound of "bagpipe" drones in the other voices. This grand Scottishstyle melody develops to a climax before the wistful return of the main theme, and an up-tempo coda completes the piece.
