It is played initially by the woodwinds, and then repeated in full orchestration. Songs of Liberation was written to commemorate the liberation of the Netherlands 70 years ago commissioned by the KMK/JWF under the direction of Major Tijmen Botma. The piece consists of three Valerian songs, dating from the 16th century. The piece depicts the resistance against the Spanish Ruler. The Cantata begins with dark and sombre undertones symbolising oppression but then allowing the Finale to shine with the liberation of light, and then Gelukkig Is Het Land (The Happy Country) brings the piece to a rousing finish.

Music to Watch Girls By was the first top 40 hit from Bob Crewe with his band, The Bob Crewe Generation. He had heard the melody (composed by Sidney Ramin) in a commercial for Pepsi Light. The original instrumental version featured the trumpet and saxophone, but later Andy Williams turned it into a vocal number. This piece is a great concert closer, which will have your audience singing all the way home with this pretty melody ringing in their ears.

We could not find any trace of the composer Mackler but he was probably British as his marches were published in London. The fine 'Medley March' was arranged by Pieter-Jan Molenaar (1907-1979), founder of the Molenaar Edition, and was published as number 2 in the series 'Marstriomfen' (Famous Marches). As this thrilling quick march sounds amazingly well it is a real discovery.

£38.20Aartshertog Albrecht - Karel Komzak
Karl Komzak Jr. (1850-1905), son of Karl I and father of Karl III was the most famous member of an illustrious family of Austrian military bandmasters. Karel II composed over 300 works among which 65 marches, 81 polkas and 21 waltzes. His waltz 'Badner Madln' is world-famous. Some of his marches, such as '84er Regiments Marsch' and 'Vindobona' are still famous, but the most popular is 'Erzherzog Albrecht' march. It was composed for the 70th birthday of the Austrian Field Marshall Archduke Albert in 1887. It became the parade march of the 9th Dragoon Regiment and the 5th Artillery Regiment in Austria.

Dominik Ertl (1857-1911) was subsequently musician, drum major and assistant conductor with the Band of the Austrian Infantry Regiment Number 4, better known as the 'Hoch-und Deutschmeister Regiment'. He was very popular in the fashionable Vienna high society of the last decades of the nineteenth century. He left the army to tour all over Europe with his own orchestra. He composed some ten marches but only the 'Hoch- und Deutschmeister' march became internationally famous. It is of course dedicated to the illustrious regiment and, though considered as the most musical of all Austrian military marches, it never became the official regimental march.

Cy Coleman was born in New-York in 1929. As a child prodigy he gave piano recitals at the age of six. Cy wanted to become a concert pianist, but finally got famous as composer, entertainer and producer. He became a television star and composed a lot of music for film and television and also some popular musicals. He was particularly successful at Broadway with 'Barnum', 'Sweet Charity' and 'Wild Cat' (1960). The popular march 'Hey look me over' is extracted from the musical Wild Cat.
