Tortoises (From The Carnival of the Animals) - Camille Saint-Saëns
Tortoises from "The Carnival of the Animals" is a brand new arrangement of this movement from the orchestral suite by Camille Saint-Sens.The slow and goofy turtle is given a hip-hop groove to speed up a bit but also face some competiton by afast rabbit, presented by the woodwind-section.This arrangement let the low brass play a slow, and veiled melody which are going to played a bit slower compared to the accompaniment. For the daredevil conductor, this piece can be akind of a "schizophrenic" exercise where one have to conduct the melody one and a half beat behind the accompaniment and rhythm group.

Cerebral Vortex - Øyvind Moe
Cerebral Vortex was composed for Musikkforeningen Nidarholm for their participation in the 2009 World Music Contest in Kerkrade, The Netherlands. Tthe first performance was given at this contest conducted by Espen Andersen, with the composer in thesaxophone section. The title is meant to describe a from of writer's block caused not by lack of ideas, but rather a lack of ability to channel and form the madness swirling around inside the head of someone with a great desire to express something. In this respect, the piece can be said to be an exercise in keeping focus from the composer's side. A limited amount of material is repeated and treated to create a development that always has a solid anchor point. This is emphasized by the return to the openingtheme towards the end.

Lullaby for small goblins - Gudny Hagen
"Amalies Christmas" is a Norwegian TV series for children, produced by NRK in 1995, and broadcasted again in 19976, and in 2000.The program consisted of 24 episodes, and follows Amalie Wang (Anne Marie Ottesen) making preperations forChristmas in an old house where there lived goblins. The program was the first of many to follow, based on the author Gudny I. Hagens characters. The music is composed by Philip A. Kruse, and all episodes ended with the goblin family (HaraldHeide-Steen jr., Brit Elisabeth Haagensli og Pia Borgli) singing "Lullaby for small goblins".This arrangement for young concert band may be performed with different instrumental soloist or vocalist.Chords are included for piano/guitar. It isimportant to focus on the dynamics and the tempo. The soloist must be heard clearly and adding a choir in the refrains makes it even nicer. It is a melodic song that suits being performed in churches and rooms with ambience. The song is often usedaround Christmas time, but it is written as a small lullaby that can be played anytime.

Lights Out - Alex Shapiro
The renowned composer of Paper Cut and Tight Squeeze has created a love child from these two popular works. The result is Lights Out, an audience-wowing excursion into a new realm of opto-electro-acoustic wind band repertoire that incorporates visual and physical elements into an exhilarating piece. The music itself is stunning, but for the full effect you'll want to devise a performance that plunges the audience into darkness and suddenly surrounds them with glowing colors of LEDs and glowsticks. A very physical approach to connecting band music to life - and to light! To perform the piece, you'll need an audio system capable of playing the prerecorded audio tracks from a laptop computer via a small digital audio interface connected to an audio mixer. Download information is provided in the printed piece.

Thunder Drums - David Shaffer
Written as a conversation between the winds and percussion, as the title suggests, this composition utilizes many voices within the metallic, pitched and drummed instruments of the percussion section. Flowing melodies in the winds are answered by intense percussion punctuation. Simple but very effective, this composition will be a hit in any concert setting.
