The world-famous Hungarian composer Kamill Lendvay (b. 1928) has written not only operas, oratorios, cantatas, symphonies, concertos, chamber music and solo instrumental works but also a considerable number of pieces for wind ensembles. His Wind Symphony, composed in 2007-2008, consists of four movements: I. Invocation of the Muse - II. Sunrise in Copacabana - III. The Iguazu Falls - IV. Rio Carnival. The work was written for professional ensembles and will have its premiere in Szeged on April 16, 2010, performed by the Concert Wind Ensemble of the Faculty of Music of Szeged University, conducted by Jzsef Csikota.

Concerto Dynamico - Johan Nijs
Concerto Dynamico is a sparkling work opening with a majestic introduction in which the whole band presents the main theme. The volume together with the broad melodic lines, create a robust opening that leads to a dazzling allegro. Syncopated rhythms produce a cheerful note, supported by the percussion. A charming andante follows, in which various instrument groups play the main theme. In the succeeding moderato marziale, the same theme can be heard as in the last allegro giocoso, but with another rhythm. Concerto Dynamico ends with a shortened repeat of the slow middle movement.

All Cried Out
At the beginning of the 1980s Alison Moyet was discovered by Vince Clarke, who - in search of greater independence - had left the successful band Depeche Mode. The soulful singing style of Moyet and the electronic, innovative pop that Clarke made melded well together in the group Yazoo with hits such as Only You and Don't Go. However, after a number of years Moyet went her own way and forged a solo career, during which she demonstrated a somewhat more traditional sound. She recorded several covers (such as The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face and That Ole Devil Called Love) but she also wrotefine songs herself, such as Love Resurrection and, of course, the expressive song AllCried Out. This arrangement by Peter Kleine Schaars does justice to the atmosphere of the original song.

A sound often associated with the Hornpipe is that of the Bdhran, an Irish drum made with a sheep's skin head. The roles of the soloist and the orchestra were consciously crafted in a way that does not follow the usual conventions of the genre. The work should spark emotions, address broad segments of listeners, and persuade them of the tuba's ability to be a solo instrument as well as the richness symphonic wind ensembles have to offer. I hope this work enriches the lives of all the soloists and orchestras that cross its path, as well as everyone in the audience who gets to partake!
