Maurice Ravel was only 24 when his piano solo "Pavane Pour une Infante Defunte," which translated means Pavane for a dead princess, became the rage of the drawing rooms and salons of Paris in 1899, but the work already held the unmistakable stamp of his style. Ravel orchestrated the work in 1910. Jerry Brubaker presents this lovely work in a Concert band setting with all of the lush melodies and harmonies of the original work but with simplified ranges and a comfortable key. A marvelous choice for a truly beautiful piece of impressionistic literature!

This has been staged in 6 programatic sections: "The Current Regime" is noble and confident in character---perhaps too confident. "Next Is the Planning"---the rebel forces begin planning quietly but with purpose and drive. This builds as "The Forces Gather"---louder, stronger, and passionate about their beliefs. This inevitably leads to "Battle!" where the forces collide in combat. Short aggressive bursts of sound lead to "Victory Is Ours," where a new order takes their place in charge. "Celebration" begins and builds to a joyous conclusion.

Keep Me Praising - Score and Parts - Andrew Mackereth
Program NotesBased on the song melodies "Give Me Joy in My Heart, Keep Me Praising" and "Praise, My Soul the King of Heaven," the music is largely light-hearted in nature with some florid semi-quaver work overlaying the melodic lines and some interesting interplay between the two selected tunes. We believe that it will have wide appeal both to players and listeners.Andrew Mackareth originally wrote this piece for The Salvation Army's Symphonic Wind Ensemble, but it was first published in a rescored version for brass band. We are please to be able to release it in its original form in this collection of wind band music.
