From the opening fanfare, this piece will put you in the holiday spirit! Joyful World is an adaptation of the familiar Christmas carol Joy to the World. The piece opens with fragments of the familiar carol cleverly woven into a spirited fanfare. This is followed by a rendition featuring a regimental snare part with playful harmonies. In the third section, the meter changes to create a beautiful 6/4 ballad, leading to a hint of the familiar Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee tune before returning to the original melody. The piece ends with a spirited brass flourish.

This exciting opener or closer, easily accessible to most high school or community bands, is named for the "Bull City," Durham, North Carolina. An excellent showcase for each section of the band, the work features moving low brass lines, woodwind counterpoints, and an aggressive horn section. One of Irving Berlin's most popular songs is given the big band treatment by Jerry Nowak. This tone poem, suggested by the 4th Century struggle of the Visigoths within the Roman Empire, contrasts the slow opening four-note motive in the low brass, with quicker more rhythmic material depicting the battles of the tribe with the Roman legions. From these elements, Sean O'Loughlin has crafted an exciting and sonorous piece that will show off the capabilities of a developing young band to great effect. A large percussion section is used with great skill to energize this serious concert work.

Harlequin is the most popular of the comic servant characters from the Italian commedia dell'arte who, although a slow thinker, was acrobatic and nimble - he would never perform a simple action when the addition of a cartwheel or backflip would spice up the movement! These characteristics are aptly portrayed musically in Bruce Broughton's mini concert overture. Originally published for brass band in 1984, this revised version for wind band coveys all the hustle, bustle, and agility of the character in a finely crafted musical structure. Meditation on St Clement - David Chaulk
Inevitably, comparisons will be made with Philip Wilby's setting of the same hymn tune so It's interesting to note that this arrangement was done in 1983 - ten years prior to Wilby's very fine arrangement. It's being published now in response to many requests from bands around the world and will make an excellent addition to the sacred repertoire of brass and concert bands.
