£149.99Colditz Castle Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
Written as a commission by the Stichting de Inrichting foundation of Wijk bij Duurstede (the Netherlands), Rob Goorhuis Requiem voor de mens (Requiem for Man) on lyrics by Andr? van Zwieten was composed in the year 2001. This work for choir and wind-band greatly impressed the audience, whilst its composer remained obsessed by its war theme. When he subsequently heard that the Rundfunk Blasorchester from the German town of Leipzig -a place not far from Colditz - was to dedicate a CD to his work, Rob Goorhuis got the idea to process some of the themes from his Requiem for Man into an instrumental composition about the famous Colditz castle. a place still bearing the scars of war. From 1933 to 1934, the castle was a Schutzhaftlager. During the Second World War, it was used as a prison for senior officers. From this prison, many escapes were undertaken, which even resulted in the castle being nicknamed The Escape School. In the seventies, a television-series about this period made the castle very well-known with the public at large.The despondent tone of the opening theme underscores the sadness caused by wars and violence. Nevertheless the works ending is hopeful and triumphant. Peace is celebrated, but with the hope for a lasting peace sadly remaining a topical issue to the present moment. 09:30

Neckarmarsch (Concert Band - Score and Parts)
The town of Schwenningen at the source of the Neckar inspired Wolfgang W?ssner to compose this march song. In the trio he employed Friedrich Silcher's well-known folk song Am Neckar. The march is composed in 6/8 time throughout, with the folk song theme likewise arranged in this meter. An optional performance with male choir is possible, with the first two verses, together with the last verse, sung. 02:40

Nerval's Poems Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
Nerval's Poems is based on four poems from the collection Odelettes by the French poet G?rard de Nerval (1808-1855). This psychotic poete maudit lived in the realms of his imagination, where he identified himself with fairy-tale princes and Oriental heroes. In Nerval's Poems, Jacob de Haan has composed the themes directly to the rhythm of the texts. Thus the work can be performed instrumentally or with a vocal soloist or unison choir. As the title suggests, this work is a partita: it consists of a number of variations on a chorale melody. The partita has been popular for centuries, especially when it comes to organ music. Henk van Belcum, who is active in the choir world, chose for his Partita Piccola the German hymn Wunderbarer K?nig as a starting point. Partita Piccola consists of four variations and a choral setting. After a majestic opening fanfare, the second variation follows, based on a canon by Pachelbel. H?ndel's Sarabande is the basis of the third variation. Next comes the chorale setting, after which the work ends festively with a dance that has been written in the form of a courante. Partita Piccola is an asset for church services and for concert platforms. 0:08:00

Remembrance Day Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
Remembrance Day (Totengedenken) is a chorale-like piece in memory of those who have died in service. Jacob de Haan composed this work for a concert by the symphonic wind orchestra Symphonic Winds, which he conducted in Germany on Volkstrauertag (national remembrance day). The composition is based on a text from Totengedenken (Commemoration of Those Who Have Died). This narrative text is provided in four languages, and is intended to be spoken (using a microphone) ad libitum during the performance. Soweto Swing Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
The sparkling music from Soweto (South Africa) has a long history. The rhythmic dances of Kwela, the 'syncopated guitars' of Mbaqanga, the saxophones and trumpets with their supple African jazz sounds as well as the infectious and sometimes gripping choir singing. All these elements can be recognized when listening to the 'Soweto String Quartet', which in its turn inspired Peter Martin to write 'Soweto Swing'. 02:00
