This Latin mass for choir and wind band was composed in honour of Saint Cecilia's feast day, Saint Cecilia being the patroness of musicians. For this reason, many ensembles have annual concerts dedicated to Saint Cecila, which was the inspiration for this piece. It is a festive, optimistic, but also comforting work, which in style perfectly suits the character of Saint Cecilia's Feast Day. After Missa Brevis, Missa Katharina and The Gospel Mass, Missa Santa Cecilia is the fourth published mass by the Dutch composer Jacob de Haan. Choral parts available separately. 0:19:04

TUNES FROM THE TRENCHES (Concert Band with optional choir) - Lawson, Peter
Concert Band set, with optional choral parts available separately. The recruiting song"Your King and Country Want You" starts us off, followed by "Goodbye, Dolly Gray" as the soldiers leave for war. "Belgium put the Kibosh on the Kaiser" is followed by some proper trench songs, with various lyrics being improvised by the soldiers: "Three German Officers crossed the Rhine"; "They were only playing Leap-Frog". "The Bells of Hell go Ting-a-ling-a-ling" leads to strains of "Stille Nacht" recalling the Christmas truce. "When this Lousy War is Over" and "There's no place like Home" are balanced by "Land of Hope and Glory" before the Americans arrive with "The Caissons go Rolling Along" and "Over There". "It's a Long Way to Tipperary" brings us towards a rousing finish save for an optional "Last Post-lude" to end reflectively. Duration: 13:30

Thomas Doss orchestrated this inspiring and very playable transcription of Christus factus est (WAB 11), the motet written by Bruckner in 1884, for wind orchestra. After Messe fr den Grundonnerstag from 1844 and a motet for eight-voice mixed choir, three trombones and string instruments ad libitum from 1873, this was Bruckner's third setting of the Latin gradual (Gregorian chant) of the same name. Cesar Franck, composer, pianist, organist and music teacher, completed Cupid and Psyche, his sixth and last symphonic poem in 1887. It was first performed in Paris in 1888 and was a complete success, but the piece later fell completely into oblivion, and it was only thanks to some meticulous research that it has returned to concert halls. The intricate love affair between Psyche and Cupid is an original story of the Metamorphoses, written in the 2nd century AD by Apuleius. The tale is about overcoming obstacles in love and their final union. The symphonic poem is divided into three parts and calls for a choir. The movement that is the subject of this arrangement, Psyche et Eros, is positioned at the end of the second part. Franco Cesarini's version for wind orchestra carefully illustrates the nuances of the instrumental colours, and represents a real test aimed at demonstrating the musicality and interpretative skills of orchestras and their conductors. Tolkien, with his spectacular Symphony No. 5 Return to Middle Earth. Although there are thematic reminiscences of his monumental first Symphony The Lord of the Rings from 1988, De Meij is putting a completely different musical vibe into his new symphony. There is an important role for a solo soprano and mixed choir: they sing in Ilkorin, one of the Elvish languages of Middle-Earth. The Orcs and other thugs also take the stage, but they only use raw screams in their own language, also known as black speech.

"Over the past few years I must have read Goodnight Moon to my son a thousand times - maybe more. Somewhere around reading number 500, I began hearing little musical fragments as I read, and over time those fragments began to blossom into a simple, sweet lullaby. I knew it was a long shot, but I asked my manager, Claire Long, to contact HarperCollins and see if they would allow the text to be set to music. To my surprise and delight they agreed - the first time they had ever allowed Goodnight Moon to be used in such a way. I composed the piece relatively quickly, originally setting the text for harp, string orchestra, and my son's mother, soprano Hila Plitmann. I later arranged Goodnight Moon for SATB choir and piano. More recently, my dear friend Verena M?senbichler-Bryant arranged the piece for wind ensemble and soloist. The melody of Goodnight Moon will forever make me think of those quiet nights, reading my son to sleep." -Eric Whitacre
