Stone Age (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Doss, Thomas

Stone Age, Middle Age and New Age are the three distinct sections of this single movement work at the highest level. Whilst Stone Age has a menacing and ancient atmosphere, an old German song can be made out in Middle Age - vocals, guitar, recorder or even bagpipes can be incorporated into the melody, which gradually gives up merry Celtic dances. In New Age, the 'present', the Celtic sounds finally connect with untamed, rousing dance rhythms.Duration: 18:30

Swingin' Kilts Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)

John Blanken has created a swinging arrangement of the famous Scottish traditional tune Scotland the Brave. The usual version with bagpipes is the best known and there is a similarity in Swingin' Kilts owing to its long, drone-like tones in the accompaniment. The theme has been rhythmically adapted but it is still easily recognisable. Swingin' Kilts holds a challenge for every brass band. It makes demands in terms of timing and technique which give this work the bravura feel that will keep the audience as well as the musicians swinging in their seats. 0:03:14

Hill Song II - Percy Aldridge Grainger / arr. R. Mark Rogers

On both "Hill-Songs," Percy Grainger writes: "My Hill-Songs arose out of the thoughts about and longings for the wilderness of hill countries, hill peoples, and hill musics (such as the Scottish Highlands, the Himalayas, the bagpipes, and the like.) "Hill-Song II" is the result of a wish to present the fast, energetic elements of "Hill-Song I" as a single-type whole, without contrasting types of a slower, more dreamy nature."

The Wind Through the Heather - Ryan Meeboer

The Heather is one of the national flowers of Scotland. This purple flower flourishes in the damp, rainy weather of Scottish moorland, glens, and hills. The piece opens with the instruments imitating the drone of the bagpipes setting the stage for a lone trumpet. Throughout the remainder of the work the melody is passed to many voices. It is reflective and expressive.
