The inspiration for this three-part work goes back to the International European Youth Wind Music Festival, of which the patron has been Jacob de Haan several times. It begins in a festive march tempo, then sacred music, instrumental groups playing off stage and a little march for brass and flutes. The third movement is a parade in which the various sections of the ensemble head towards the stage from different directions. According to Viking mythology, following a battle the bravest souls of the slain would be divided between two Gods, Odin and Freyja. Freyja was the Goddess of Love and War and before going into battle many Viking warriors would pray that they would die bravely so that Freyja would take their soul to join her personal army made up of the souls of the bravest of men.'Freyja's Call' describes one of these, a young Scottish soldier, going into battle as part of the Viking army who occupied parts of Scotland for four centuries. First, a slow theme is heard, Freyja's theme, which is the soldier praying to Freyja to keep a watch on him. Then the drums introduce a new rhythm which announces the beginning of the battle.A Celtic Jig is used to describe the progress of the battle with the jig played quietly at first then gradually louder with more percussion being added until a full ff section signifies the soldier fighting the enemy directly.Suddenly, the music drops back to the quiet Jig theme. The soldier has been slain, but will he be chosen by Frejya? After a short time, Freyja's theme is heard as the brave soldier is taken to Freyja's heavenly army of brave warriors, and the piece then ends in triumph.

Based on the exhilarating bike ride on the Seymour Valley Demonstration Forest trail and a detour into the remote, beautiful Lost Lake, I associate this piece with some great memories. Glistening in a quiet peace, Lost Lake_x001A_also known as Rolf Lake_x001A_is calm and warm in the summer. Not many people know about it, so it is easy to find yourself alone, surrounded by beautiful nature, isolated from humanity. Back in high school, I would bike up to Lost Lake with one of my best friends Masanori Miyanabe, we'd have music playing off a bluetooth speaker as we biked against the cool air under the hot sun. Powering through uphill stretches with the reward of gliding downhill, when we would finally make it to the lake, we would put our bikes down by the bushes_x001A_no locks, no security_x001A_and we would make our way down the rough logs towards the tiny strip of land suitable for basking in the sun, snacking, and maybe even swimming. In order to beat the sunset, reluctantly, we would mount our bicycles once again and find our way back to the Seymour Valley trail, where we would enjoy the evening ride home. -D.I.D. Choi

The regal theme appears again in the coda, concluding in brilliance. This great civilization vanished in 10 A.D., leaving only remnants of a remarkably prosperous world. Thousands of ruins large and small remain locked in a dense world of jungle, with huge crumbled cities having lain forgotten for eight centuries.II. Glorious ruins still ariseII characterizes this civilization from glory, to destruction, to the present with its buried ruins. To begin, stone cities wait silently cloaked in jungle, steadfastly eluding discovery. As time passes slowly, the music reflects back to the glory of the Maya. Though wishing to turn back the hands of time for this incredible civilization, its fate and the gravity of its loss are carried forward in the profound silence of eternal loss. Finally, in the present, we marvel at the thousands of elegant remains, with a choral of praise for those with remarkable wisdom and strength, in a spectacular conclusion.(Satoshi Yagisawa)

The piece opens with a sumptuous celebratory fanfare dominated by the brass section. In the following Allegro, the woodwind instruments weave their graceful melodious plots, with occasional intense interruptions by the brass section. The piece continues with Valzers where the initial melancholic mood set by the woodwind is superseded by the brass section harkening back to modal musical mode before, once more, being taken up by the woodwind instruments. The piece closes with a gently expressive Andante. The gentle delicacy of this section moves to a moderate Allegro featuring a running dance with light-hearted irregular rhythm. The return to the opening fanfare brings us back to the anniversary celebrations of the Band and a solemn final sequence to the composition. The debut performance took place under the direction of the composer at the Gala Concert on March 28, 2009.

Exultation is a short and energetic concert opener that is similar to a palindrome. A fanfare opens the work, juxtaposing 3/4 and 6/8, reminiscent of Latin-American music.The main theme is first heard on the euphonium, horns and saxophones which is very bluesy. The contrasting second theme is short and spikey and played by the bass instruments of the band. A lyric melody emerges as the rest of the orchestra joins in.The second theme reappears which leads back to the 'blues' melody, which leads back to the opening fanfare. Palindromic!

The magical world of King Arthur, Merlin and Mordred is the setting for Avalon. Unexpected opening figures portray the sudden entrance into another world. A choral-like melody represents the procession of ghosts headed by the mighty magician Merlin. Suddenly, ostinato figures and bi-tonal motifs indicate the attempt of Mordred and his horde to disturb the peace and quiet in the otherwise calm Avalon. Following a powerful statement of King Arthur, we hear a glissando referring back to the opening bars, and... we are back in the normal world. The journey through the underworld has come to an end and the dream is over.

Sea shanties (or chanties) are songs sung by sailors to keep them synchronized (and mentally interested) while doing the hard labor of sailing. "Paddy Lay Back" is a capstan shanty, a capstan being a vertically-axled rotating machine used to raise and lower a ship's anchor. Sailors would rotate the capstan by pushing poles radiating from it, with three or four men working a pole. The song would help them keep momentum; if not, something could slip. Not only would the anchor drop uncontrolled, but the capstan would spin quickly and the poles could throw and harm the sailors. 1st trumpet's highest note is G. 1st & 2nd clarinets cross the break
