Tomaso Albinoni (1671-1751) was a prolific Baroque-era composer whose works are now rarely performed. However, he was much admired by J. S. Bach who used examples of Albinoni's music in his teaching, and also used themes written by Albinoni as the basis for some of his own pieces.Elegy for Albinoni, a beautiful memorial piece in honor of this musical master, uses a romantic tone to set the stage for a theme based on one of Albinoni's violin sonatas. In a musical style strongly influenced by (and occasionally parodying) American popular music, the subtitle "Baroque" may seem a puzzle at first. It is also the key to Pann's approach in composing for multiple wind soloists and ensemble. With Bach's Brandenburgs in the rear-view mirror, Pann has created a glorious hybrid of inspirations with intricate counterpoint, cadenzas, beautiful slow textures, and wild rides, creating a 16-minute, fast-slow-fast concerto grosso. The published piano reduction is fully practical for live performance. Also available for clarinet and saxophone with piano (114-41972).

Originally composed for solo organ, Hailstork's fanfare is a 3-minute explosion of joyous sound inspired by the Baroque-era tradition of Chorale Preludes. As in Bach's organ preludes, the familiar hymn's phrases broadly emerge from ornate counterpoint, here in the form of brass fanfares. The result is exhilarating! Also scored by Hailstork for chamber ensemble and for orchestra, FANFARE ON AMAZING GRACE was transcribed for concert band in January 2021 by MGySgt Don Patterson, staff arranger for "The President's Own" United States Military Band, for that ensemble's worldwide broadcast performance at the 2021 Presidential Inauguration.

Grace Williams (1906 - 1977) from Barry, South Wales, was Wales finest composer. She studied composition at the Royal College of Music with Ralph Vaughan Williams and completed the Fantasia on Welsh Nursery Tunes in 1940. The iconic Fantasia, - her most popular work, which brought her to prominence - is a composition for symphonic orchestra based on traditional Welsh nursery tunes and lullabies.It is a light-hearted musical journey through childhood in eight traditional tunes. The jubilant start to the work is echoed in the finale, with a calmer, but effectively scored middle section.The Fantasia was featured in the 2024 Last Night of the Proms. Rejoice and sing! was written in celebration of the 95th birthday of Sir David Willcocks. John Rutter writes: I was delighted to be asked by OUP to compose a new carol in his honour. Writing 'Rejoice and sing!' I recalled the many happy Christmas concerts he conducted with the Bach Choir in London's Royal Albert Hall, thinking also of his fondness for quirky rhythms, hence the lopsided 7/8 which runs through much of the music. This arrangement is written for combined Concert Band and Chorus, but may be performed by band alone. It is compatible with the original version except that it is transposed down by one-half step (semi-tone).
