Mozart's Sandbox (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - McKenzie, J. Scott

What kind of music would Mozart write if he were alive today and had been exposed to jazz, rock 'n' roll, and polytonality? This piece supposes that he would start with what he knew and then figure it out on the fly! Mozart's Sandbox is a piece rich with depth and humour, but thoughtfully scored for young bands.

Five Mississippi Rush (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Taylor, Clifton

Beginning with a snare riff based on this audible football chant, the content of "Five Mississippi Rush" is inspired by its title. A five-Mississippi rush is often used in pickup football games where there is no offensive line and the defense has to count five "Mississippis" before rushing the quarterback. Cliff Taylor's use of five-note motives and five-element phrases combine with the melodic and harmonic language of the blues that is rooted in the State of Mississippi. This engaging work will appeal to both performers and audiences. Exhilarating throughout! Duration: 5.00

A Moorside March (Flexible Ensemble - Score and Parts) - Holst, Gustav - Brand, Michael

Holst composed A Moorside Suite for Brass Band in 1928. It is in three movements, this March being preceded by a Scherzo and Nocturne. It is an extraordinary mature work for band from a master composer. There is very little fortissimo writing and there are no semiquavers at all. Instead, Holst has written clean melodic lines with each part being woven into a texture based on the modal lines of English folk music; but these represent its stylistic origin rather than using actual folk tunes as in Holst's earlier band writing. The March is stirring and flowing and is an ideal standalone piece to open or close any concert or festival programme. Duration: 4.15

Tigerstaden (The City of Oslo March) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Strand, Oyvind

The expression comes from the great poet Bjornstjerne Bjornson where he in the poem Siste sang (Last song) describes a battle between a tiger and a horse. The tiger symbolizes the big city (Oslo) while the horse symbolizes the countryside, ie the traditional battle city vs country. Hence Oslo (Kristiania) got the negative nickname Tigerstaden (Tiger City), but as time went on, the name established itself as something positive and familiar, and has become a beloved nickname, without negative associations, in the Capital. Franarormen (Optional Piano Solo with Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Aagaard-Nilsen, Torstein

In 1911, the Australian pianist and composer (and friend of Edvard Grieg), Percy Grainger (1882-1961) went on a tour in Norway. He performed more than forty concerts over a few months. Fifty years later, in 2011, The Royal Norwegian Marine Band made a concert project called "Percy Grainger Revisited Tour". "Franarormen" is a worm or a dragon as described in norse medieval ballads. I have used four different tunes from the region Telemark were Fr?narormen is mentioned in the text. The piece is a musical reflection - not at all as drammatic as the text. It is like a picture of an old fairytale and a dwell on the sound of ancient songs. The piece can be performed without the piano part. Instructions to be found in the percussion parts. - Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen
