The Last Rose of Summer (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Van der Beek, Wil

The Last Rose of Summer is a popular Irish folk song. The original text was written by Thomas Moore (1779-1852) and the melody is a traditional air titled The Groves of Blarney. The German composer Friedrich von Flotow (1812-1883) cleverly used this song in his opera Martha, a light-hearted, successful work that is still regularly performed. The melancholy character of The Last Rose of Summer still appeals to many people in the present day and this arrangement by Wil van der Beek certainly does justice to the beauty of the melody. A wonderful item to change the mood of any performance.Duration: 3.30

Yellow River (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Christie, Jeff - Schwalgin, Stefan

The little known English group Christie became famous overnight in 1970 when they released the record Yellow River. Yellow River is a Vietnam era song (a protest against the Vietnam War) and describes the wish of a soldier at the front to return home. Band leader, singer and composer Jeff Christie initially wrote the song for The Tremoloes, but as the group were uncertain about it he decided to record it himself. The result was a number one hit in over 25 countries! The catchy melody and beat were reason enough for Stefan Schwalgin to create this arrangement for concert band.Duration: 3.00

Something (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Harrison, George - Iwai, Naohiro

Cherubinos Aria (Flute Solo) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus - Brand, Geoffrey

This 'Canzona' comes from Mozart's comic opera "The Marriage of Figaro," first performed in Vienna in 1786. Cherubino is a young page in the household of Count Almaviva, although the role is written for a soprano and usually cast for a singer with 'boyish' looks. The song, entitle "Voi che sapete" (Tell me fair ladies), is introduced in the opera as if written by Cherubino himself and is simply a diversion rather than of relevance to the plot. Although initial reaction to "The Marriage of Figaro" was somewhat lukewarm, it has of course established itself as one of the great comic operas, and this canzona became and 18th century "pop" song.
