Buglers Rule - Joseph Compello
Buglers Rule is a trumpet section feature for the youngest of beginning bands, using only the first six notes of the B-flat scale. It is written with a march feel, so it can also be used to introduce this important style to beginning players.

The Stars and Stripes Forever (March) - John Philip Sousa
This arrangement sounds especially great. Andy Balent's setting is so stirring that your audience will want to stand up and salute. You'll find that the simplifications and range adjustments that make this work accessible to young bands have not diminished the excitement one bit. Some sections, such as the dogfight, do push the top end of this level, but with a bit of work, we think you will be thrilled with the outcome. This is a perfect flag waver for young bands.

Adagio Sostenuto - Vincent Persichetti
From Persichetti's many offerings for band, the Adagio Sostenuto movement of his Symphony is a particular favorite for festivals and contests. The second movement of this popular work is one of the most beautiful pieces in the wind band reportoire. This movement is offered as a stand alone publication, so that bands that are not technically ready for the entire piece can still perform this lyrical "gem." Without question, the second movement is technically easier but musically challenging. The piece is well worth the effort.

Tribute to Dixie - Gilbert Tinner
This scintillating work was written as a tribute to the jazz musicians of the New Orleans, Dixieland and Chicago styles of the 20s and 30s. It consists of an opening swing section in true Dixieland style, followed by a sleazy blues section. Ideally the band should be divided so there is a separate Dixieland band consisting of trumpet, clarinet, alto or tenor saxophone, trombone, banjo (optional) and tuba or double bass. Although the Dixieland band are mostly accompanied by the remainder of the concert band the accompanying players also get the chance to shine as every now and again they take over the musical themes.

Clair - Gilbert O'Sullivan
The Irish singer-songwriter Gilbert O'Sullivan possibly had his greatest success in 1972 with Clair. With its jazzy harmony, this song deviated a little from the spirit of the time. Stefan Schwalgin took the theme of Clair as a starting point, and gave the melody to the alto saxophone. His arrangement fits the tradition of solo works in which it is not so much about technical virtuosity, but rather about the sincerity and charm of the expression. Let your saxophonist shine with this luscious new solo work.

The Eve of the War - Jeff Wayne
When Jeff Wayne's musical adaptation H.G.Wells' novel The War of the Worlds was originally released, no one would have believed that it would become so popular. The Eve of the War, the stunning opening scene of Wayne's show, became a huge international hit single in its own right. This new arrangement by the highly respected British composer/arranger Ed Keeley retains all the drama and tension of the original atmospheric opening. A joy to perform and a pleasure to listen to.
