Here's a marvelous arrangement featuring the engaging sounds of folk music from Sweden. It opens with a brief fanfare followed by In The Summer The Sun Shines So Clearly. After the lovely 3/4 melody Flowers Of Joy, Eric alternateswoodwind and brass choirs on the dignified O Varmland. The lively song My Love Like A Dainty Shepherdess is written in 3/4 for ease of reading, and the medley concludes with a majestic setting of The King. Well scored with plentyof variety.

This work is a commission by the Missouri Bandmasters Association to honor the 50th Anniversary of the MMEA. From the opening melody stated by unison flutes, 1st clarinet and 1st trumpet, the work quickly starts through a development of that melody that only this composer does so well. The writing is very "rubato" chorale style often interrupted with short allegro sections but always returning to the opening statement. There is a short flute solo passage as well as a very fluent alto sax solo. A dramatic piece that bands will enjoy playing for years to come.

£121.70The Highlights from Elisabeth - Michael Kunze
The life of the Austrian empress Elisabeth (1837-1898) which started as a fairy tale but ended as a tragedy, inspired the librettist Michael Kunze and the composer Silvester Levay to write a musical based on the life of the popular 'Sissi'. The musical was premiered in Vienna on 3 September 1992 and was very successful for many years. The story is told by Luigi Lucheni, Elisabeth's murderer. So death, represented by a mysterious and seductive young man, is omnipresent throughout the musical. Several songs have become hits and, of course, you can hear them in this fine selection by Peter Kleine Schaars who gathered various music and dance styles such as the rock shuffle, the jazz waltz and the classical Viennese waltz.

Gipsies are wizards with the fiddle. Eastern European folk musicians and gipsies are using a lot of brass in their music. Their brass ensembles are very impressive, so the link to brassbands is quickly made. Based on the folk theme of Manea Tsigailor all cornets join the theme in an up tempo 7/8 bar. Gathered around a campfire gipsies are telling stories and making music. When the lower brass is telling their story all others clap hands. All of a sudden a cornet soloist appears. When we return to the basic theme the story ends with some dazzling bars.

Back to Normandy is a composition for concert band on the occasion of D-Day. On D-Day (June 6, 1944) the liberation of Western Europe started at the beach of Normandy. A long campaign through Europe followed before the liberation was complete. Back to Normandy describes the first hours of the landing with the shelling of the German positions as a (musical) peak. As an introduction you will see and hear de preperations for the biggest campaign ever. Very special and unique is the fact that the music of Back to Normandy can be performed synchronously with a movie with original footage, specially made for this composition. This will without a doubt be an extra experience for the audience. So far performances like this were exclusively for professional orchestras (like George Fenton, Earth). This piece is specially suitable for concert bands that want to offer their audience something special and also want to honour the liberators. The movie to practise for the concert is on Youtube (meassures and metronome are visible/audiblematen).
