Songs from the Lowlands is a collection of songs from the 16th and 17th centuries from my native country The Netherlands, formerly known as The Low Countries. They are, by turns, patriotic songs by Adriaen Valerius from the time when our country was occupied by Spain, naughty love songs and a drinking song, Peeckel-Haringh. Songs from the Lowlands was written for the farewell concert of my dear friend Jim Yarnell, who has been the director of bands at The American School of The Hague for four decades. Jim conducted the premire at his final concert, April 8, 2022, and now enjoys a well-deserved retirement.Duration: 12.00Songs from the Lowlands can be performed instrumental or with SATB choir (choral parts available separately).

Trans-America March, composed in classic style, is inspired by the westward development of the United States of America. Beginning with a quote from the opening phrase of The Star Spangled Banner, we are taken on a journey westward across the great divide. The first strain ascends melodically to the peak in center of the phrase. The melody then descends to the other side of the great divide representing the journey across the country from sea to shining sea. The trio is based on "America, My Country Tis Of Thee," leading to a rousing conclusion. £75.00The New Spirit of '76 (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - McCall Noblitt, Katheryn - Noble, Paul
Though never before published, The New Spirit of '76 march is perhaps Katheryn McCall Noblitt's best known piece, and was among her favorites. Originally composed in 1947 as a piano solo, in 1975, in anticipation of our nation's Bicentennial celebration, she composed a second-piano part for two additional players, wrote patriotic words in both two-part and four-part harmony. The melodies are so well-crafted that they seem very familiar. This arrangement includes short quotations from other Bicentennial favorites - The Star-Spangled Banner, Battle Hymn of the Republic, Dixie, and Yankee Doodle. Dr. Noble directed its premiere performance in 1976 during a music festival, followed by performances with the 500-member Virginia Bicentennial Band and Marching Chorus in Philadelphia, Washington, Alexandria and other cities.

The Prelude and Fugue (The Spitfire) by William Walton, written to accompany the film, The First of the Few, was the film story of the designer of the Spitfire fighter aircraft, R. J. Mitchell. This work was lifted, almost bodily out of the film score: exceptionally (for film music) it needed hardly any modification to turn it into a first-rate concert piece. The prelude, called by Stephen Lloyd one of Walton's finest marches, is the music heard over the opening credit titles in the movie. A central lyrical solo depicts the exhaustion and dying by illness of the aircraft's designer R. J. Mitchell. The fugue is used to describe the making of the Spitfire, and then the patriotic march returns joined with the fugue to mark the completion of the fighter aircraft. The majestic march-like drama of the Prelude is well-suited for graduation and other ceremonial events, and the total piece is a tour de force for contest performance.
