Generations Fanfare was written in a film-musical style on commission for the Bezirksblasmusikverband (Wind Music Federation) Imst in Tirol, Austria. The composer, Otto M. Schwarz, composed this grade 3-4 standard piece in an attempt to make his film-musical language accessible to concert bands. In the distance trumpets and percussion make their melodic entrance, followed by the whole band. This opening piece is appropriate for every festive occasion.

On 11 March 1879 in the Austrian town of Neumarkt am Wallersee a huge fire broke out in a brewery, setting fire to at least 60 other houses within one hour. Due to poor equipment and a lack of water, nearly the entire city was burned to the ground.Only the church was spared. This epic piece musically depicts the events in a programmatic way starting from the inauspicious moments shortly before the disaster, throughout the fire, and the final reconstruction of the town with the help of thestrong spirit and unity of the Salzburg community. Opening with a brilliant and majestic section highlighting the state's bright and vibrant culture, a flowing melody follows, representing the calming winds and consistent breeze of the state. Dance is a large part of Florida's culture, especially in its southern region, and the 7/8 rhythm captures an Afro-Latin style dance movement. The chorale/hymn section is based on the "Florida Song," which is a traditional school song of many schools, including Florida A&M in Tallahassee. The work then recapitulates and moves toward a driving and joyful conclusion. An excellent contest/festival work!
