    Distortion

Distortion is a fun and unique composition written for young band and electric guitar, inspired by the author's grandson Owen, who plays trumpet and guitar. The piece features electric guitar with distortion, offering an exciting and fresh experience for both band and beginning guitarists. The guitar part, which primarily consists of power chords, includes a short solo that can either be improvised or played as written. A drum set part is included, but it's recommended to feature either the drum set or percussion, not both. This piece is a break from traditional wind band literature and allows for a creative, dynamic performance that will excite both performers and audiences.

Eiffel Tower - Otto M. Schwarz

The 330-meter-tall Eiffel Tower is one of the most famous landmarks in the world. Originally built as a temporary structure for the 1889 World's Fair, it was meant to symbolize the technological and industrial advancements of the 19th century. Construction began in 1887 and was completed in 1889, just in time for the fair, which celebrated the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. Over two years, around 300 workers assembled the 18,038 iron pieces.Until the 1930s, the Eiffel Tower, standing at 330 meters, was the tallest structure in the world and was considered a triumph of engineering. With its striking and controversial design, the Eiffel Tower broke with architectural traditions and set new standards for the use of metal structures. However, its creation was accompanied by heated debates. Many artists and intellectuals, including Charles Gounod and Alexandre Dumas, criticized the "gigantic skeleton" as unaesthetic and a threat to the Parisian skyline. Some even called for the tower to be torn down after the World's Fair. But the Eiffel Tower survived these objections and developed into a symbol not only for Paris but for all of France. Its structure was not only aesthetically significant but also practical: during World War I, it played a crucial role in radio transmission, as an antenna on its top was key to French communication. This functional use helped prevent its demolition.Today, the Eiffel Tower is a global symbol of innovation, modernity, and French culture. At major events, such as the 2024 Olympic Games, it took again center stage, attracting millions of visitors every year. Its elegance and the spectacular view from its platforms make it an unforgettable experience. Since its construction, the Eiffel Tower has welcomed more than 300 million visitors, making it one of the most visited structures in the world.

Burn the Church ! - Otto M. Schwarz

In the 16th century, Lille was part of Spanish-ruled Flanders, governed by Charles V and later Philip II. The region was shaken by civil, independence, and religious wars. Philip II persecuted Protestants, who were labeled as heretics and "the Wretched." On August 15, 1566, an uprising occurred with numerous plunderings in the region. On December 26, 1566, 400 "Wretched" attacked Wattrelos and defended themselves the next day in the cemetery and in the church. The Catholics set the church on fire, where many "Wretched" burned or fled. Some managed to escape with the help of the inhabitants. Wattrelos commemorates this event annually in September with the "Berlouffes" festival. During this festival, dolls are thrown from the church tower, and a large doll is burned.

Chorale for Peace - Thierry Deleruyelle

Chorale for Peace is a song of hope and peace for humanity. In commissioning this work, the wind band of Le Portel (France) wanted to pay tribute to the victims of 8 September 1943, when around 100 Allied planes dropped more than 5,000 bombs on the town of Boulogne and the surrounding area. In fact, this operation was nothing more than a diversion to make the enemy believe that a landing was imminent in the north of France. This music is slow, an adagio commemorating the human sacrifice of this operation. But more broadly, the composer also wanted to express his support for the peoples who, even today, suffer oppression. This set includes an optional choir part that offers the possibility of making an even deeper impression on the listener.
