Don Vctor - Ferrer Ferran
Don V ctor, a festive paso doble with a typically Valencian character, evokes the atmosphere of the "Fallas", the Valencian festivals held every March, and of the festivities around the bullfights. This paso doble can be performed as a concert march or a street march. A brilliant trumpet solo gives the piece its Spanish flavour bringing the sound and feel of a hot balmy evening spent at a bullfight.

Dr Jekyll researches the evil in man and succeeds in creating a potion that transforms him into his alter ego, Hyde. However, Jekyll loses control and fights an inner battle with Hyde. He loses this battle when Hyde commits murder. Understanding that there is only one way to resolve this, Jekyll kills himself and thus Hyde. In this solo concert the main characters Jekyll and Hyde are played by two solo trumpeters. The different sides of the trumpet are highlighted in this story: from the lyrical passages (Jekyll) to the sharp, mean and dark passages (Hyde). Farewell was composed at the farewell of Fanfare Trompetterkorps Der Cavalerie in 1993. The work is based on 2 of the most famous tattoo signals in military music: "Reveille" and "Tattoo." Farewell opens festively with blasting trumpets and then continues with a somewhat melancholy melody based on the reveille theme. After interweaving all the signals and themes in the work's climax, the work ends quietly, with "in the distance" a lone trumpet playing the tattoo signal....

Forest of Tranquility is our newest work in our very beginning band series. Like all of our compositions in this performance level, your students can play this within the first few months of study. Thus, getting in a very early concert and keeps kids in the band program. This is a gentle sounding song starting in a minor mode, moving to its relative major and back to minor, a sound not often heard for a beginning band at this level. Clarinets do not cross the break. The 1st trumpet's highest note is Bb.

One can easily imagine in the days of Castes and Kings, how this composition may spark the feeling of what it may have been like for Knights of the Kingdoms to not only protect the Lords of the Castle, but also be chivalrous to the Ladies of the Court. Dancing at the feasts and festivals, escorting the royalty to various events. Knights had much more to do than fight. They were allowed to have fun. Sometimes. Like all of our Grade compositions, its main purpose besides giving good and interesting music for young musicians to play, is that it is an opportunity for the band director to teach some aspect of music. This is a great composition for introducing eighth notes and following dynamics. No clarinet crosses the break, and the 1st trumpet's highest note is A (in the staff). Everyone plays rhythmically together. Only the drum part may vary. All chords of the diatonic scale are used to make the harmony more interesting with no accidentals.

"Power of the Redstone is dramatic, exciting, and, most of all, it is fun to play! While I have written the piece in g minor, I have thrown in some diminished 7 chords and added some v chords for extraordinary sounds and novelty that students (and teachers who are tired of hearing I-iv-v-I over and over) are sure to latch on to and enjoy. The ranges on all of the instruments are well within the grade level of the piece, with Trumpet 1 going as high as 4th line D (just a couple of times), flute going no higher than their "C" and Trombone hitting their high E-flat one time.
