Priere a Notre-Dame - Léon Boëllmann / arr. David Marlatt

This beautiful slow movement from a work for solo organ is a great feature for the clarinet section of a band. The melody flows throughout the ensemble but the clarinets receive the most attention. This is an ideal work to show off the lyrical and musical side of a concert band. Concerto in D, Opus 7, No. 6 - Tomaso Albinoni / arr. David Marlatt

This three-movement , somewhat reminiscent of Handel in character, was originally for oboe, strings, and continuo. Solo parts have been provided to feature either oboe, clarinet (in B-flat or A), or piccolo trumpet in A. The rich, full sound of a band accompaniment is a large step away from the original strings but is suitable and striking in its contrast with the support sound under the soloist. (6:55)

    High Five! - Steve Hodges

Looking for some music to get the audience more involved in your concert? Here it is! A medium-rock groove sets the stage for an eighth-note motive that signals the band and audience to give "high fives" throughout the piece. Soloists on the flute, saxophone, trumpet, trombone and clarinet are featured on two-measure phrases that lead to an exciting "drum-off" between the snare and tom players. Band members and directors are encouraged to use their creativity in the solo section as well as in giving "high fives" to each other and to the audience. A really fun piece! (3:05)

    Dona Nobis Pacem

In the rich chalumeau register, a solo (or soli) clarinet voice quietly introduces the hauntingly beautiful melody. Layering into the texture, other voices add timbre and depth. The phrasing is exquisite, and teaching opportunities for legato playing abound. A modulation from B-flat to E-flat allows even more sonorities as the work moves to its conclusion. Serious music educators should look closely at this piece. (duration 2:40)

River Run Canyon - Barrie Bartle

"River Run Canyon" was inspired by a white water rafting excursion in the high elevations of the Rocky Mountains. Feel the spray in your face as it opens with the rise, fall, and brief hesitations experienced while riding the river current over and around various rock formations. Eventually the waters deepen and become placid before turning tumultuous once again. There are solo opportunities for clarinet, alto sax, and trumpet in this memorable melody and interesting rhythmic overture.

Sunset Over Blue Water - David Marlatt

The lyrics are about remaining positive even when faced with great personal loss and sadness. This version is positive throughout and was inspired by a picture taken aboard a cruise ship of a beautiful sunset over the ocean.
