Score and Parts. SPECTRUM. This work caused much consternation when it was used as the brass band test piece at the 1969 British Open Competition. The score is an uncompromising one and as colourful as its title suggests. The various episodes of the work are each named after a colour from the spectrum - Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Purple (changed from Violet when Vinter became conscious of his failing health). It is a piece of violent mood swings challenging all sections of the band. Many consider this to be the finest of Vinter's small output for band. James Rae is the man who put fun into woodwind and brass teaching. His many compositions, especially in the jazz and blues idioms, have often featured on examination syllabuses. Recent years have seen his publications of easy flexible ensembles for younger players and now he turns his attention to the wind band. In this series "The Concert Band Collection", he has written exciting new pieces for the standard concert band line up. Attention is given to each instrument so that the technical and musical requirements do not exceed UK Grade 2.5. An optional piano part will provide "stuffing" and moral support for the young players who will quickly enjoy James' catchy and imaginative music. Each volume contains two titles. This one includes the haunting and nostalgic waltz "Secret Fairground" and a dynamic masterpiece called "Blue Strut".

Ring in the holidays with this famous Christmas carol, Ding Dong! Merrily on High. The tune first appeared as a French dance in the 1500's. The lyrics were written by George Ratcliffe Woodward and published in 1924 in The Cambridge Carol-Book. More recently, Sir David Willcocks made an arrangement for the second book of Carols for Choirs, on which this arrangement for Concert/Wind Band is based. His original arrangement was in the key of B major, which has been modified to B-flat major to better accommodate the instruments of the band. This represents one of the Series of Band Arrangements compatible with David Willcocks' Carols for Choirs.
