Music for a Festival was originally composed for brass band and used as a test piece in the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain. The wind band transcription was commissioned by Chris Hooker for the Hounslow Youth Wind Orchestra and first performed by them in May 1989 with the composer conducting. This work falls into three movements which are played without a break. A Future Celebration (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Houben, Kevin

Future Celebration was composed on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the Royal Socialist Wind Band 'De Toekomst' from Sint-Niklaas (Belgium). In this colourful compostion Kevin Houben succeeds in evoking the bustling textile and cigar industry of the nineteenth and twentieth century in this East Flemish city Sint-Niklaas. After all, these crafts were characteristic for the wealth they brought to the city. Still testimony of this are the 2 unique (niche)museums in Sint-Niklaas: the Knitwear museum and the Pipe and Tobacco museum. Even in times of great crises eg. during the Interbellum the city continued flourishing proving the unique collection of classified art deco houses, amongst others the former People's House, in which the Royal Socialist Wind Band still rehearse. This historic background of Sint-Niklaas and of the Wind Band in particular has been musically presented by Kevin Houben in Future Celebration. The brief, but energetic and powerful opening of the work by the brass instruments gives musical expression to Sint-Niklaas as a prosperous city. After the presentation of a majestic and lyrical theme by the woodwinds an allegro with a cheerful theme takes a look at the future, hopefully looking at the next milestones/ celebrations the city and its orchestra are still expecting in the future. Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day (Concert Band with Optional Choir - Score and Parts) - Noble & Rutter

This is one of John Rutter's most popular carols, now arranged for Wind Band and SSA Chorus. The arrangement is intended for combined Wind Band and Chorus. However, it is also arranged so that it is complete with Wind Band alone. The scoring is done with some cue size notations that should be played if performing without the Chorus. The choral part is shown in the score, but not included as a part of the instrumental packet. This arrangement is compatible with the published vocal score.

Happy Harmony (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Haan, Jacob

Happy Harmony is a cheerful composition that puts wind music in the spotlight. The word 'harmony' can be interpreted in different ways. In countries like France, Belgium and the Netherlands, 'harmony' is the name given to a symphonic wind band. Secondly, the term generally refers to a feeling of unity, which is very much present amongst band musicians, owing to the communal connection that is created when playing together. Thirdly, there is of course the harmony that you find in music itself. This 'harmonious' work opens with a festive introduction leading to a catchy pop theme. The middle movement is a lyrical ode to wind music. Then the cheerful theme returns, followed by the perfect finale as the icing on the cake.Duration: 4.30

CELEBRATION (Concert Band) - Woolfenden, Guy

Three Movements:RondoValseTristeMarchThis work was commissioned as a celebration of the life and work of Murray Slater, the inspirational musical director of Derbyshire City & County Youth Wind Band, who sadly died in 2000. Murray was greatly loved and respected in the wind and brass band world, was a fine trumpeter and teacher, and was universally known as "Man of Music".Celebration attempts to capture facets of Murray's personality. The Rondo's theme has a witty rhythmic twist to it, the Valse Triste features a solo trumpet, and the concluding March contrasts a Prokofievian theme with a slower "big tune" that attempts to match the stature of the man.The first performance took place on 12th July 2002 in Chesterfield with the Derbyshire City & County Youth Wind Bands, conducted by the composer.Duration 15 minutes
