The bishop died on 17th March 461 and in Ireland, as a tribute to this remarkable bishop, this date became a national holiday called St. Patrick's Day. A composition student of the late J. Clifton Williams, Robert Foster composed this work for symphonic band as a tribute to Mr. Williams. The work begins with a statement of the primary theme as a fanfare. The theme recurs later in the work in the form of a chorale, and returns even later in the energetic and rhythmic dance section. A recapitulation of the chorale follows, and the work concludes with a brilliant fanfare. This is a unique musical work and an ideal contest selection.

Tanczi Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
This suite was written in the style of traditional Russian folk music, but does not use existing melodies or themes as its basis. The colourful and varied work contains a number of surprising turns, but also familiar sounds. After the introduction, a kind of Trepak follows ? a fairly quick dance with attractive themes. The second movement (Garovot) is predominantly slow and conveys some melancholy, although, during a more dynamic passage the passion flares up again. Finally, the Troika takes us along in a reindeer sleigh through a grand snowy landscape. This is a wonderful tribute to the music of Eastern Europe in the style of some of the great Russian masters. 0:13:30

Brigadier is a senior military rank who typically commands a Brigade consisting of three battalions, approximately 3000 soldiers. The appointment to a high-ranking officer in the Army provides a lot of Swiss communities with the opportunity to celebrate. When Heinrich Tanner was promoted to Brigadier, the 'Knabenmusik der Stadt St. Gallen' wanted to pay tribute by dedicating a march to him.
