In the case of the composer, the piece is in remembrance of his late brother whose astrological sign was Virgo. It is an emotional harmonic journey with well-placed dissonance tied together by a memorable motive. Musically, this piece is beautiful, emotive, and will stretch your young musicians to strive for musical elegance.

Composer/arranger Sean O'Loughlin has provided a refreshing new setting of our National Anthem. It was originally written for orchestral brass and percussion and has been performed at both MLB and NBA events. The arrangement begins with a bold fanfare to set the tone, but also to provide the motive glue to hold the arrangement together and create something unique. Early Hungarian Dances - Ferenc Farkas

The composer wrote of his work as follows: In the music of Hungary, folk songs are manifestly of great importance, on the other hand our ancient airs and dances play a modest role. For this work I have been influenced by dances of the 17th century, written by unknown amateurs in a relatively simple style. Most of these dances were recorded between the 14th and 18th centuries under the usual form of tablature notation. My interest in this music was first captured in the 1940s. I was so fascinated that I decided to give these melodies new life. I fitted the little eight-bar dances together into ternary and rondo forms, and leaning on early Baroque harmony and counterpoint, I attempted a reminiscence of that atmosphere of the provincial Hungarian Baroque.

Crazy for Christmas - Bert Appermont

Christmas is the time of the year where everyone comes together, and peace, family and friendship bonds are strengthened. When selecting repertoire for your Christmas concert, it's difficult to find new arrangements that are both challenging and fun to work on, as well as fun for the audience. Crazy For Christmas is one of those pieces by the Belgian composer Bert Appermont. He uses canons and even fugues throughout this arrangement and foresees a spectacular ending. It is based on Il est n le divin Enfant and Away in a Manger but refers wittily to JingleBells, Deck the Halls, The Twelve Days of Christmas and Hark, the Herald Angels Sing. So 'crazy' all the way!
