£122.50Mercury Rising (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip
Mercury Rising was commissioned by sinfonisches blasorchester wehdel and its conductor Thomas Ratzek, to celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2018. They premiered this piece in their half-century concert on 2nd November 2018 in the Bremerhaven Stadttheater in Germany. Designed as a virtuosic and lively opener, Mercury Rising opens with nervous energy and driving, syncopated rhythms in a blaze of colour. The horns and saxophones then introduce a broad melody, which the trumpets subsequently take up after a change of tonality. A quieter moment introduces a distant fanfare on muted horns over bubbling semiquavers in the low clarinets. This is interrupted by a passionate tenor melody but soon returns on the full brass section, accompanied by echoes of the opening woodwind figuration, and is extended to bring the piece to a triumphant close. £84.00A Tom Sawyer Portrait (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Jarvis, Rebecca G.
Mark Twain's colorful characters come to musical life in "A Tom Sawyer Portrait!" The journey begins in St. Petersburg, Missouri, with a jaunty musical portrayal of Tom and Huck and a ragtime sequence which depicts the sleepy river town. An Americana-style ballad follows that is tender, lyrical and poignant. This segues into a "no holds barred" blues section representing the mighty Mississippi. The Portrait concludes with our heroes' return, featuring a recap of the opening theme augmented in the brass and accompanied by woodwind runs and exciting percussion. This is a great selection for the concert band that demands solid musicianship but will reward students for their efforts! Duration: 8.15

£137.99Virginia (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Haan, Jacob
This expressive piece depicts three periods that play an important role in the history of the American state of Virginia, the colonization, slavery, and the American Civil War. The first movement describes the adventures and hardships of the first colonists through lively American sounding themes. The expressive slow movement, in which a melancholic minor theme forms the starting point, depicts, with clever use of blues elements, the oppressed slaves on the tobacco plantation. This is followed by a illustration of the Civil War, heralded by ceremonial figures from the brass section. The work is brought to a close with a slow but optimistic theme heralding hope for the future.Duration: 9.15
