This composition paints a picture of belligerent and brave Vikings. After a short introduction the lofty main theme is heard, accompanied by sombre drum sounds. A brief idyllic passage follows that evokes a beautiful landscape. Gradually, a heroicmelody is revealed, leading to a great tutti, in which the rousing main theme is heard once more. Vikings Victorious Concert March - Chris Sharp

A concert march in the classic tradition, this piece is ideal for your festival program. Written in the key of E=, the difficult key change at the trio is avoided by a modulation to B=, instead of the traditional A=. The D.S. al fine helps this piece come together with minimum rehearsal time and maximum result. Consider even using the opening section as a school fight song! (1:50)

Pilgrims of Wolfryt - Jacob de Haan

The work Pilgrims of Wolfryt tells the story of the legend Walfridus (also known as Wolfryt), a resident of the town of Bedum in the Netherlands who was born in the 11th century. Wilfridus had an eventful life: he introduced Christianity to Bedum and helped the town build its first legal system, but ultimately his story ended in demise murdered alongside his son at the hands of the Vikings. Pilgrims of Wolfryt is a symphonic poem-like masterpiece, full of evocative melodies in a mix of tonalities to make the most of the impressive rhythmic material.

    Seid - Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen

Seid (pronounced sayed was a divination ceremony practised by the Vikings which could be used to reveal knowledge of the future. During the ceremony, woman sang incantations and the Seeress (Vlva) passed into a kind of trance. In other arctic cultures similar ceremonies took place during which the Medicine man (Sage), or Shaman, would beat a drum covered with magic runes, and he too would pass into a trance, reaching the deepest part of his own sub-consciousness - a journey beyond time and space... "Seid" was commissioned by The Norwegian Band Federation and European Brass Band Assosiation for the European Brass Band Championship in 1996. The version for Concert Bandwas commissioned by Frode Amundsen and Borge Musikkorps in 2018. Supported by NOPA (Norwegian Society of Composers and Lyricists)

    Introduction - Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen

"Introduction" is a short concert opener. I quote a couple of Norwegian Folk Tunes to make a musical picture of the Vikings running from the seashore to face a battle. They used to drink something made of mushrooms to prevent fear and pain - They became Berserkings! The piece was originally scored for Brass Band and commissioned by Manger Musikklag in 1998. This version was commissioned by The Royal Norwegian Navy Band in 2002 and re-edited in 2018.
