Shadowplay
Shadowplay is a descriptive, impressionistic work inspired by an early morning walk along the beach of the composer's home in Vancouver, Canada. The music reflects the play of light and shadow with the rising of the sun through the trees. It begins calmly, with the sunrise as the light melts the shadows. The piece develops with the sounds and sights of nature; seagulls floating in the air and the crashing of the waves. Shadow becomes light ; light becomes shadow. The music ebbs and flows as the sun rises higher on the horizon. "Shadowplay" features a variety of tonal colors and textures, orchestration which is sometimes haunting and transparent, sometimes rich and lush, yet always evocative. After a dramatic build, the music subsides, with all of the melodies interweaving like a tapestry of light and dark and ending as it began, with emotional sensitivity. Features, lyrical solos by soprano saxophone, flute and flugelhorn. An ideal piece for concert or festival use to display sensitivity and dynamics.

His band compositions such as Rock and Go, Splashing Sounds and Songs of Freedom have first been performed and promoted by several German Police Bands. Schneider writes sparkling and rhythmical music that sounds very up-to-date. This is also the case with these Three American Snapshots in which the composer draws three atmospheric portraits resulting from a trip to America. With some imagination the listener can dream a similar trip.

The most important source of income for the island is tourism. The magnificent landscape, in which white and blue dominate in the dazzling light, is the great attraction of the island. Apart from this, there are also many churches, chapels, windmills and a couple of museums--Mykonos is a truly ideal holiday destination.The Belgian wind band composer Johan Nijs captures impressions of the island's atmosphere in Mykonos. The work is written in a typically Greek style: two sirtakis are employed and the piece closes with acharacteristic Greek presto. Greek sounds are also incorporated into the slower passages.

Also available for Solo and Piano (060934050)Epic Variants was commissioned for the 1st clarinet day in Anet (France), not far from La Couture-Boussey where the clarinet was first created.The work was premiered in 2022 on may 7th by Didier Pernoit, bass clarinet soloist of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France, accompanied by the concert Band of B, conducted by the composer.The work is based on a theme harmonized with strong epic chord progressions, exploiting the whole register of the bass clarinet, from dark low sounds to soft higher notes.The piece is in one part, but divided in three different moods, each thematic material being a variation from the first one.

Cathedrals have always appealed to the imagination. Hundreds of years of manpower have been invested in their building and it is not for nothing that today they represent imposing symbols of architecture and history. The cathedral is also a great source of inspiration for compositions, drawing on a full palette of acoustic echo effects, Gregorian melodies and organ based choral themes.The work "Catedrals" opens with a five tone motif using double tonguing which resonates through space. Then comes a Gregorian antiphonal theme "Salve Regina" which is heard in the euphonium and later combines with the opening motif. The quicker passage that follows is basedentirely on the intervals in the motif which by now has added rhythmic variations and develops in different forms, including a fugue. The work then builds towards its first climax, from which unusual muted sounds emerge creating an atmosphere shrouded in mystery.Gradually, more melodious fragments are added to the Gregorian antiphonal theme which develops into an expansive choral, emulating the organ and which rises above the sound mass. The work grows more powerful and brilliant in sound until it culminates in a short and explosive finale wherein elements from the whole work come together.
