    Pulsation - Richard L. Saucedo

Written entirely in one tempo, but with the meter alternating between 4/4 and 6/8 throughout, Richard Saucedo creates an ingenious effect of pulsating motion along with layers of textures and sounds. Starting with a soloisticdialogue between flute and clarinet the work progresses to thicker sonorities and percussive effects including clapping and shouting. Definitely an enjoyable work that is off the beaten path! Dur: 2:35 (Grade 2-1/2)

On Cloud Nine! - Richard L. Saucedo

On Cloud Nine is an impressive and energetic composition that will fit in just about any part of your concert program. The flashy opening segment features woodwind flourishes with powerful brass interjections. Following a slow and beautiful lyric setting of the theme featuring solos on horn and flute, the fast tempo returns and powers the piece to an exciting climax. With accessible ranges and modest technical demands, this work sounds harder than it really is. Dur. 3:00

    Dreamcatcher - Robert Buckley

The inspiration for this unique composition came from the charming Iroquois folk melody, Ho Ho Watanay and the ancient Ojibwe legend of the dreamcatcher. It was believed that the magical webs of the dreamcatcher would filter out all bad dreams and only allow good thoughts to enter the mind. Using evocative percussion effects, colorful orchestration and harmonies, Dreamcatcher sounds much more impressive and advanced than its grade level would suggest. Definitely a piece that will bring a different flavor to any concert and excite the imagination! Dur: 2:45

    Japanese Tune - Soichi Konagaya

Japanese sounds, pentatonic scales, throbbing drums and (for Western wind orchestras something quite new), glissandi on the double-reed instruments. The fact that Molenaar's Editions for wind-orchestra are now sold worldwide has a reciprocal effect. Composers from countries such as Japan are gratified to see their work appearing in our lists of new publications. We consider ourselves fortunate that we have been able to publish this 'Japanese Tune', as we are convinced that it will exercise a refreshing new influence on the wind-music repertoire.Technically speaking, the opening section with its shrill glissandi is the most difficult. In the percussion, use can be made of the various Japanese Drums, but these can easily be replaced by Tom-Tom, Cymbals, Sleighbell, etc. etc.

Fandango Fantasy - Hans van der Heide

Though composed as a simple unpretentious little work, this 'Fandango Fantasy' sounds somewhat virtuoso. The slow middlepart makes us think of the plendid piano pieces by the Spanish composer Isaac Albeniz, many of wich have already been orchestrated for wind band. The quick part with which the work starts and ends (in a whirling finale) is the actual fandango.

Drei Stze und Marsch in D-Moll - Anton Bruckner

Anton Bruckner is chiefly famous because of his monumental symphonies, yet, before he got the mastery to realize those sound cathedrals he wrote numerous small musical miniatures. They only occupy a small place in the master's large catalogue but they are the first autonomous symphonic compositions of young Anton Bruckner. These Three Sketches and March in D minor were written in 1862, while he was studying composition with Otto Kitzler. In these early works one can already recognize his gift for creating rich sounds and his orchestration skill.

Elegy and Allegro - Drew Shanefield

This is an up tempo work where the quarter note equals 120 per minute. There are a lot of whole note trills for the upper woodwinds, which they love to play. It is an exciting work that is fun to play and not as difficult as it sounds. The 1st clarinets play over the break. 1st trumpet's highest note is A (in the staff).
