Febesa - Filip Ceunen
The title of this work, Febesa, refers to the four notes it is based on: F, E, Bflat (BES in Dutch) and A. At the beginning of the work, the sound of these notes creates a mysterious, extraordinary atmosphere. The work slowly builds from the low brass as the thematic torch is handed to the woodwind section and this leads into a grand tutti. In a tonal and refreshing allegro, the febesa-theme now has a more harmonic role. After this passage, the symmetric form of the work brings us back to the mysterious atmosphere of the introduction, with solos for euphonium, oboe and flute.

Katarakt - Steve Willaert
Katarakt is a 13-part fictional series about a young woman, Elisabeth, who sets out to save her in-laws' floundering fruit farming business at all costs. She dedicates herself to this with ruthless ambition, even though a serious eye complaint makes the task increasingly difficult for her. Elisabeth gradually discovers her past and comes to a few surprising realisations. The series is set against the background of fruit farming in the Hesbaye region and follows the rhythm of the four seasons. Juri Briat arranged this beautiful music, by Steve Willaert, for concertband and fanfare.

£75.00Sonata - Derek Bourgeois
This work, composed in 1998, was commissioned by the American trombonist Don Lucas as a work for trombone and piano and first performed by him in Birmingham on 19th May 2000. Subsequently, I arranged the music for both solo trombone and brass band and solo trombone and wind band so that it now exists in three formats. The first movement, in B flat major, is brisk and energetic, and is cast in sonata form. The second subject is gentler and more lyrical. The second movement, a scherzo in C major, is the most complex of the four. Basically the structure is a rond. For a long time the music remains in the opening 5/8 time until a new theme introduces more broken rhythms in a more jazzy idiom. After a return of the opening theme the following episode is more tonally ambiguous. Finally, the main theme returns to round off the movement. The third movement, a lyrical adagio, is really one long extended melodic flow. The harmonies are lush and the textures simple and direct. The tonal center is A minor, but the music meanders through so many keys, that this key centre is heavily disguised. The finale is a fiery affair. G minor is really its home key, but throughout the movement the music moves about a lot and the second subject is first heard in A flat minor. The movement's underlying sonata structure is masked not only by its loose tonality but also by its frequently changing time signatures. Like the first movement the second subject is more lyrical in nature and for a while it seems that the music will end peacefully, but a final flurry heralds a triple forte unison on the home note of the first movement - B flat. In 1922 Halvorsen was commissioned to write incidental music for the bicentennial performance of a comedy written by Norwegian playwright Ludvig Holberg. Masquerade calls for a diverse pallet of music depicting ballet and dance scenes filled with silly play and gaiety. As a result, the music is graceful, as found in Cotillion, playful as in the Bacchanale, and burlesque for the Rooster and Grotesque dances. The original Masquerade Suite for orchestra consisted of eight dances; this arrangement for concert band comprises the first, third, fifth and sixth movements of Halvosens original suite. A delightful programing selection displaying humor, wit and elegance in the four brief movements.

Maxime Aulio composed Les Voyages de Gulliver (Gulliver's Travels) for the concert band of the Conservatoire National de Rgion in Toulouse (France) conducted by Jean-Guy Olive. The first performance took place in Toulouse (Auditorium Saint-Pierre des Cuisines) on April 25, 2001. The Anglo-Irish author Jonathan Swift (1667-1745) took about six years to complete his epic tale of adventure. The creative storyline, clear writing and subtlety of Gulliver's Travels have been engaging readers for generations. This literary travel between reason and foolishness was Maxime Aulio's inspiration for this piece. Each of the four movements of this suite is a review of Gulliver'sadventures, resembling the effect of a kaleidoscope, which juxtaposes small fragments of colour in a linear pattern.
