Feuerfest - Josef Strauss
Feuerfest was written to commemorate the sale of a fireproof safe for a famous Vienna safe company. The piece has a distinctive Austrian flare like that of the Radetzky March, but is much more playable for young bands. Carl Strommen has set this nice little march for use in festival performance. It is a refreshing change from the standard American march fare.

The varied sound is the result of harmonics, glissandos, pizzicatos, fingerboard and instrument body tapping, solo and ensemble playing. 'Sinfonia piccola' was premiered by students of the Wrzburg Music Academy at the First International Double Bass Competition and Workshop in 1978 on the Isle of Man. * This work is part of the "Hummel Bass Ensemble Project".

Carl Orff wrote his little world-theatre "Der Mond" [The Moon], based on old fables, between 1936 and 1938. The score written for actors who sing, a narrator and large orchestra, also contains parts important for wind band. The arranger, Hermann Regner (born 1928), worked very closely with Carl Orff for many years. This work is sure to be a success in concerts for bands at an advanced level.
